While searching for suitable images (before I turned to my own stash) I came across this modified NE3-73 (notice how it goes from E to G).

If it indeed turns out to be the mystery bit, I think you can keep playing your Nord until you have a replacement. You might notice that you can push the key down further than the others, but I don't think it'll fall off or anything (the spring keeps it securely in place). You could even decide to leave it as it is; I think the main task of that lip is to keep the key in place if the spring is removed. It may have broken off when you hit a key very hard.
Hey thanks, mjbrands, I think that's exactly what it is. Some great info in the other thread you linked, too. For my situation, I'll leave it at this. I just took off one side panel and it's not rattling anymore, and that's as far as I go with a brand new synth. I'm gonna take the Electro back to the shop and have them take care of the repair.

I would tell them you were able to shake it out, not that you took off the side panel. They might not be very anal about it, but strictly speaking you might have invalidated your warranty. You could try asking them if their own technical guys could do the maintenance (since you already know what the issue is), that might be quicker than sending it to an authorized Nord repair center. Then again, I don't know if the distributor would allow them to do that (= fix it themselves). Seems to me that fixing it themselves would likely cost them less time that shipping it, paperwork, etc.

Since it was so close to the side, I figured I'd take off one side panel with the three screws, and I fished it out. I took a picture: maybe someone can recognize what it is (from)? The scale is centimeters, by the way.

thats looking alot like the part flying around my board.. based on what you said and the fact that the keyboard seems to have no problems i may just leave it for now...

Hi, just checking up after 10 years: did you encounter any problems with the keybed later on?
