Novachord samples?

Post by simonbeck »

Don't know if anyone here has heard of the Hammond Novachord, but it was the world's first polysynth, introduced in 1938, weighing nearly half a tonne, containing hundreds of valves /tubes, and with an amazingly organic, haunting range of sounds, from piano-like to string- or even choir-like.

I know that a couple of companies have sampled restored Novachords to produce VST instruments, but does anyone know of any raw samples that could be made into Nord sample sets?

Yes - Hollow Sun!
It's a library for Kontakt, but you have access to the idividual samples.

Check their website:

Thanks! I wasn't aware that the Hollow Sun product could be used in that way.

Has anyone managed to get the Hollow Sun samples in a package usable on the Nord Electro? I like the idea but don't want to spend £50 on the samples to find out that it will take me a lot of time to import/edit/fade/loop etc the samples in the Nord Sample Editor.
Thanks

In that Hollow Sun site there is a free 'Marcato Strings' sample. Not a great inspiring sound, although perhaps of historical value. The samples unfortunately are all a bit too high in pitch, so to they probably need to be retuned in Audacity or similar. Other sounds from the Novachord are quite interesting.

I've been able to create some Novachord-like sounds on the NE3 by downloading Clavia's RMI Electra-Piano sample set, changing attack and release settings and applying chorus and EQ. A bit of tube amp simulation helps, as does a volume pedal.
