Nord electro electro 5 hp vs dexibell vivo s3

Postby Pianolin » 02 Sep 2018, 08:15

Has anyone compared the Nord electro 5 hp to the dexibell vivo s3? This 73 key keyboard recently caught my eye as I haven't seen many other 73 key with a hammer action keybed. It's priced at $1,799 which is quite a bit cheaper than the Nord. It has a fatar keybed so I wonder if it would feel the same as the Nord. The piano sounds great in the demos. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I tried it in store, and was not convinced of the piano sounds I heard. YMMV.

the s3 does have the same fatar tp100lr action as the electro hp, but with a third sensor.
also the new improved platinum library of sounds have been recently introduced.

For lower cost 73-key hammer action pianos, you can also look at the new Yamaha P-121, or a Studiologic SL73 Studio controller driving a laptop or iPhone/iPad. The Studiologic should have the same action as the Dexibell.

Thanks for the suggestions. Would the studiologic combined with software be a a better piano experience vs the dexibell? It would seem the dexibell would integrate better with the built in sounds and it also has string resonance and damper noise etc. Also for the occasional gig I feel like the dexibell might be a better option although for the most part this is not for gigs.

I just tried the dexibell in store, I wasn't impressed by the sounds, is the Platinum library a huge improvement?

Well I've placed an order for the electro 5hp so Nord it is. After listening to all the different samples the Nord just sounds so much more realistic...like a real piano. I do like though that on the dexibell you can edit the different parameters of the pianos mechanical noises.

There are actually a few parameters that can edited too on the Nord. On the NE5 (as well as on the NE6 and maybe others), you an adjust the level of sympathetic string resonance. On the NP4 and NS3 (and probably also some previous generations) you can additionally adjust the piano noise level (when used with the Nord 3-pedal).

But whatever you adjust, then yes -- the Nord sounds more like a real piano with all the flaws they may have :-)

Yes, the "warts and all" character of Clavia's pianos are an important ingredient of their charm.

As an aside, my local Nord dealer (only four miles away!) is expecting a Dexi S9 soon... it's currently "on the boat", they'll email me when it arrives.
It should be interesting to compare a P4, S3 88, and S9, all side-by-side.
