Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
Hi Matt,
Everything available from Nord pertaining to your instrument can be downloaded here:
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads/legacy/nord-electro-2
Skipping one of the six positions is an indication that nothing is currently loaded to that location. The way the instrument works is there are six locations and a finite amount of memory. Any sound from the NE library can be loaded to any of the six positions -- it is not necessary to follow the labels on the front panel. For example, if you are a rhodes freak and care about nothing else, you can load six rhodes samples into those six positions (forgive me if my memory has failed me and there are only five rhodes available in the library).
What OS is your NE running? Those number flash in the display during boot. If you are on 3.04 (second decimal flashes four times to indicate the "4"), then you are current. If not, download and run the OS updater application. This requires a midi connection to the instrument.
Once updated (or if you're already there), download, install and run the Tool software. This requires a USB connection. That software is SUPER easy to use, like falling off a log. Download the v3 Electro library and pick which six sounds you wish to load, subject to the available memory.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
Again, what OS is your Nord currently running? This number will flash in the display during boot.
What computer (Mac/PC) are you running? What OS is that computer running?
These are important questions and their answers will enable others, myself included, to assist you.
You can safely ignore the fact that yours is an "Electro 1" and not Electro 2. The difference is mainly in the graphics painted on the chassis. Both instruments are functionally identical when OS 3.04 is loaded.

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
hi sorry my OS on my mac is OS X Yosemite (version 10.10.1) and my nord when it comes on the display flashes 'EL', then flashes '92' before it shows 'A1' which is the first category sound. My electro serial number is EA0070 if that helps to.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
The old Electro Tool was never updated to run on Intel Macs, so you need to find a Mac running 10.6 Snow Leopard or older, as that was the last system to support PowerPC code.

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
Hi, I'm running my Mac up to date on Yosemite, but I produced an external USB drive running 10.6 Snow Leopard with help of the original CD. Next step is to get the USB connection going, because nothing happens when I connect my Nord. Another thing is to connect my Mac to the NE2 Midi ports, which seems necessary for the upgrade, could anyone help me ?
My NE2 runs O.S.2.0.

You need a simple and cheap MIDI interface. And you need to install the nord electro driver.

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
Hi Tredget27,
The numbers you are seeing on boot are quite remarkable and would seem to indicate that you a VERY old Electro; perhaps that means v0.92 OS?
For both you and for HyraxeC,
STEP 1: update OS. This is accomplished via midi interface only. The OS updated application needs to perform a "handshake" operation in order to work, so midi connections need to be made both ways.
ONCE THE OS HAS BEEN UPDATED THERE WILL BE NO WORKING PIANO SAMPLES ON THE INSTRUMENT.
STEP 2: install new piano samples from Electro 2 library. This is done via USB only. Mac users need Snow Leopard or earlier; Win users needs Win7 32-bit or earlier (Win7 64-bit not work).
You may wish to delay performing the OS update until you have a computer on hand which can perform the piano sample installation.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: Nord electro (electro 1) query for Update software/sound
Yes, the upgrade process as you recommended worked fine! I bought a simple midi-usb cable, installed the cable software, connected the NE2 midi to the MAC usb, run the update NE2 v3.04 from the Nord site, connected usb NE2 to MAC, run the nord tool and moved the piano sounds to the Nord. A straightforward procedure. I have posted some pictures in the library. It is really worth the effort, the new piano sounds are great! Plus additional functionality on key sensitivity setting and Lesley rotor deceleration. Happy greetings, Henk
