Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
My Electro 6D sounds just started cutting out all of a sudden and not coming back unless you turned it on and off. I bought this keyboard in 2018 and it has been serviced before.
Tonight I had the control pedal plugged in and sustain pedal, it was playing through my Universal Audio Twin II into logic 9 and I was recording- when the sound first stopped working I thought it perhaps I set something up wrong on my audio interface, even though it was working a second ago...and so I reset that. Then it would make noise and I would go to record and the sound wouldn't work, so I thought it was a pedal problem, so I kept plugging it in and out and restarting the Nord - The Nord would make noise at the beginning and then would cut out. So then I thought it was my recording program - logic. I restarted that a bunch of times and also the keyboard at the same time, same thing happened. So I plugged my Nord into my amp to make sure it was The Nord and not my recording software or computer. The sound would work and then it would cut out, when using the amp. And when I say cut out, it cuts out until you turn The Nord off and then it is back when you turn it back on. I went to update The Nord on sound manager etc etc..it was all up to date but I did it anyway, same thing happened.
So I decided to pull the keyboard open to see if anything had come loose....now looking inside I can't really tell if anything is loose or damaged....HELP!!!

Re: Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
I recall similar issues reported with defective pedals or when pedals connected to the incorrect jack. Can you reproduce this problem without any pedals connected at all?
I assume you use stereo outputs to your audio interface, but if not, do you know if the sound only fails on a single channel (L/Mono or R)?
Similarly, does the headphone output continue to function correctly when the sound cuts out?

Re: Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
Thanks @pterm for your reply, I called a friend last night and he said all the same things you said. So I put the keyboard back together, after I showed him photos of the inside of the keyboard and he said it all looked fine.
(Early that night I had checked that all the correct pedals were plugged into the correct sockets on the keyboard - it was the first thing I checked).
I tried The Nord with just headphones, no pedals - it worked fine.
I then tried The Nord with headphone and just the control pedal and the problem seemed to be in that pedal. Which I found strange because I had plugged it in and out a bunch at the beginning...so perhaps I will replace the pedal or the lead that connects it.
And just to be safe I also tried just the sustain pedal and headphones - this was also fine.
Then I plugged everything back into the amp and then the interface and everything seemed to be back on track and I was able to record again with no problems.
I am a bit confused as to why the Control Pedal lead or control pedal was faulty and now not? I will look into this again, strange that the problem has just disappeared now when I didn't really do anything major to fix it.

Re: Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
If the fault is in the cable or pot it could be that depending on its position it shows or not, intermittently; unless you can check and repair your current pedal (pot or cable) yourself, a new pedal is a safe solutionbreezus wrote: I am a bit confused as to why the Control Pedal lead or control pedal was faulty and now not? Re: Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
Just to make sure: An expression pedal needs a stereo resp. TRS (tip ring sleeve) cable. No normal guitar cable!

Hey ya, yeah I'am aware of the stereo response...I've been using the same cable and same pedal for over 4 years now - the pedal is a Moog EP-3 expression pedal.Tasten-Bert wrote:Just to make sure: An expression pedal needs a stereo resp. TRS (tip ring sleeve) cable. No normal guitar cable!

Like I said I've been using it for over 4 years, there is no damage to the lead or pedal...just all of a sudden it did the cut sound thing. I had jiggled the lead...but you think if I was to jiggle it now, the same problem would occur ...but it is just gone...

Re: Nord Electro 6D sound cutting out
Hello!
I’m currently having a similar problem with my Electro 6HP. It started the other night when plugged in and playing through my Apollo Twin - the sound level went to about 10% and then completely stopped working. I turned it off and on again, seemed to come back at low volume and then complete silence. I plugged headphones in and nothing from those either. While playing today I am only able to get about half volume through my headphones. I’ve had this piano for a couple years and it’s worked flawlessly up until now… Who would I even take this to to have it serviced? I bought it from a GC in Texas then was shipped up to me in Buffalo, NY. I don’t have any shows coming until March that I would need it but it scares me to think about shipping my main kb to be serviced and not having it back in time.

@fourem:
If you haven't already, make a backup of your 6HP settings and consider booking a rental unit from one of your local music equipment centers as a contingency.
Your problem description did not state whether you use a control pedal or if you ruled out problems with pedals as a cause (i.e., remove all pedals). Be sure to do that first.
Service in USA is through their distributor American Music & Sound. In the past, they recommended local repair technicians.
