Nord Electro 6d 61, Korg EXP2

Post by Sascha Heggen »

Hi from Germany,

my Name ist Sascha, new in this forum and happy with my purchased 6d 61 which I use together with my Korg SV2 73.

Two questions:

1)
I‘ve got a Korg EXP2 foot pedal connected and it‘s volume range is from 50-100% even after adjusting GAIN in the System Mode 9/16.
Is there another possibility to get it from 0-100%?
If not: Which Control/volume-Pedal do you use/recommend for the 6d, working properly?

2)
When turning on the Nord, I have to activate the Control-Pedal for every of the 3 sections by pushing the knobs. Is there a way that the Control-Pedal keeps activated automatically and needs no pushing again after turning off the Nord?

Thanks in advance for your answers,
Sascha

I'm not experienced with Kord pedals. But how did you check that? Did you use that pedal for organ swell or for synth volume? A Hammond B3 swell pedal will never get down to 0, and every Nord organ engine acts the same way.

If a pedal is active or not is part of a program setting. So you might need to modify some (or all?) programs you use.

Besides, it's a good idea to read the manual - it's well written and will give you an impression of how your Electro is organised.

Adding to the above, Korg EXP2 has a slider to set its minimum value between 0-50%, its manual indicates it is used only for Input1-Output1 (analog Volume function) but not sure it does not influence also the Expression Output (Output2) so I suggest to check that it is at 0.

Even if we could write in german, here my reply for all.

I use the pedal for all three engine sections and in no section it can be reduced to zero.
Yes, reading the manuel is mostly helpfull, but not in this case.

Yes, I checked the slider function on the Korg pedal but it doesn‘t reduce the value to Zero.

Then you should measure resistance between RS and TS of the TRS cable you use to connect Output 2 of EV2 pedal to the NE6 to:

1) verify if it is the Tip or the Ring changing value vs the Sleeve when you move the pedal (i.e. if the "cursor" of the pot is wired to R or T)

2) check that the full swing of the "cursor" goes actually from 0 Ohm to the same value of the fixed part.

PS: you should not write in German in any case, this forum rules (that you accepted by subscribing) state that it is in English only ;-)

The gain setting on the Electro 6 is intended to control max volume, not min volume. So you can set this back to what it was. If you are on the right connector of your Korg pedal, the Min. knob is set to low (0) and you have set the Pedal version to 'Korg' (also try all the others!), it should work.

To get back to the second half of your question ("If not: Which Control/volume-Pedal do you use/recommend for the 6d, working properly?"):
I use a Yamaha FC-7 for controlling swell as the pedal has a long travel. It's not so good for quick movements like a wah, so I use a Moog EP-3 for that. As you only have one pedal connector on your Electro, you'll need to make your choice.

I consulted the expression pedal list http://expressionpedals.com/list-of-expression-pedals (which doesn't exist any more) on the internet archive (archive.org). Like the Yamaha FC-7, the Korg Exp-2 is RTS, not TRS. So, you might succeed with setting the pedal to "FC7". Even if it has a resistance of 100 kOhm, not 50 kOhm like the FC7 or the other Korg pedals.

Of course, you should check the pedal (and the chord) as well.

Good luck!
