Nord Electro 6 with bass pedal and second manual

Postby motto » 03 Nov 2018, 12:43

Hi Everyone, since this is my first post, I am going to introduce myself real quick: My name is Marc and I'm in the process of choosing a keyboard for myself. I took piano and some pipe organ lessons as a kid / in my teens, but stopped playing when I went to the university, about 13 years ago. I have recently decided that it is time to start playing again and after testing a lot of different instruments in a large music store nearby, I knew I wanted a Nord. At first I was very interested in the C2D, but found it to be a little *too* focused on the organ aspect. I am looking for an instrument that is an excellent pipe organ and B3 replacement, but also offers some great piano, electric piano and harpsichord sounds. So it didn't take long for me to arrive at the Electro 6D 73, which seems to be the perfect compromise

I am about ready to go back to that store and pick up my Nord, but I have a couple of questions that I could not find an answer to anywhere:
  1. Is it possible to configure a midi bass pedal (such as the Nord Pedal Keys) to act as a true organ pedal? What I mean is: can I set up a specific registration for the bass pedal, as I would be able to on a pipe organ, and have a different registration for the keyboard? In other words, does the Electro 6D allow me to attach a midi bass pedal and configure and play the pedal / keyboard combination like a real organ (pipe and B3)?
  2. Assuming that the answer to the previous question is yes, could I additionally attach a second midi keyboard to the Electro 6D / midi bass pedal setup, in order to get a full organ with two manuals and a bass pedal? Could I set up different registrations for the bass pedal, Electro 6D and second keyboard?

Thank you very much for your help :)
~ Marc

Hi! This is by now my doubt as long as I possess just some months ago my Electro 6D 73... I have an enormous and marvelous EX5 Yamaha and 1-octave antique Minami pedalboard - this functioning just in channel 1. I'm studying videos by Youtube trying to comprehend how to do it - and perceive it's not an easy task. As to MIDI here, maybe might merge these 2 "keyboards" to my Nord - just Thru wouldn't function, I guess. I hope somebody could help... Thanks, from Brasil.

It's a shame the original post went unanswered. Based upon the manual, it appears that you can use Dual Organ mode and "Ext KBD to Lo" to use your EX5 as the 2nd manual, however I can't find anything to indicate flexibility to trigger another sound from a 3rd keyboard without it being part of what's set up for the 2nd manual. Hopefully an Electro 6 owner on this Forum can provide more guidance on this. Good luck to you!

No you can’t do this. You can have any two of upper manual, lower manual, and pedals. If you want to play actual organ then get a nord c1/2 (difference less than people think) or Hammond or mojo.
