Hi Everyone,
I received my Nord Electro 6HP a couple days ago and I'm not entirely sure the string resonance is working correctly.
The LED light is ON for "String Res", but there is no resonance if I hold some notes, say with my left hand, and then press others, with my right.....I should get a sympathetic resonance right?
Am I wrong in thinking this?
Resonance DOES work with the Sustain Pedal, but not while I'm holding notes in one hand and playing with the other hand.
I tried turning it off and on, doing a factory restore but it still doesn't seem to work.
The Piano samples are the factory patches, mostly MED pianos.
Am I missing something?
I'm using the newest software Ver. 1.16
Any thoughts or tips appreciated!

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
It works here. Hold down the middle D and the A above (without making any sound, so press it down slowly). Briefly hit the D one octave below hard, and release it again. You now here the open 5th D - A.
You only have sympathetic resonance if the harmonics match.

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
Hi,
Right. I understand.
Mine does not do that right now.
And now hearing that yours does have resonance while holding down keys makes me wonder if there's an issue.
hmmmmm. That's a little worrisome.
Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
Not all piano samples support string resonance based on their size. Also, depending on the size of the sample, the resonance may only be supported in a limited range of notes.

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
Just to check, I did the test with the XL version of the Velvet Grand and the Royal Grand 3D just to absolutely make sure it wasn’t the size of the library. .
Even with the XL versions there is no resonance while holding keys.
Any other ideas?

Just to make sure your expectations match the Nord's behavior check this demonstration of string resonance:

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
Sure pterm,
Exactly. Mine is not doing that.
I've tested string resonance before in the store, and it was a huge factor for me in choosing the Nord.
No resonance while holding a key down right now, but there IS resonance when I'm playing with the sustain pedal.
I'm not certain, but I'm sure it had resonance when I turned it on for the first time a couple days ago, but then I quickly updated the software because it was recommended and I haven't heard it since then, so I guess I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the software update?
But if everyone else is still hearing resonance even with the update, then it's hard to know why it's not working on my Electro 6.

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
I had a look through the manual. A relevant item appears on p.27:
SOUND MENU
1 - PIANO STRING RES LEVEL
sets the level of the string resonance feature that can be turned on for
selected pianos (acoustic Med, lrg and xl sizes).
Range: +/- 6 dB (0 dB default)
Perhaps the String Res Level has been turned down to its lowest level...

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
I’ve checked this setting as well, but still no string resonance at the normal setting.
I’ve even turned it all the way to +6db and string res is stilll inaudible.
Could someone maybe confirm they have string res with OS 1.16 just to eliminate that it’s the OS update that’s causing it?
Pressing a key while hitting another key as demonstrated in this video: https://youtu.be/kRBiccrT6Wg?t=26

Re: Nord Electro 6 String Resonance Question
You could maybe try to go back to a previous version, like 1.12 -- it is possible that something is broken in certain configurations on 1.16.
I'm not at my NE6 now, so I cannot check versions, and it's been a while since I was checking it on my NE6. But if it is a bug in the firmware, I'm sure Nord will fix it.
