Nord Electro 5 or 6 HP question

Postby GiannisP » 24 May 2018, 16:06

Hello!I am new to the forum and i wanted to ask 3 questions before buying my first Nord.

I am interested to buy either Nord Electro 5 HP version or new Nord Electro 6 HP version. The main reason is that a want an Electro with hammer action keys.
I have to say that i have read all your posts about Electro HP versions and i am afraid about 3 things :

a)Most people say that it's too hard to play organ on HP models. Is it that hard? You can't play groovie and funky things on HP keyboard action?

b)I've read several posts saying that keybed is too noisy...Does that make instrument unplayble or sth?

c)And most important thing.I saw some posts saying that keybed is a little uneven (some keys are higher and some are lower than others). What's your experience with this?(Sorry for my bad english!). For example i saw this post :

I saved a lot of money and have more options by buying the semi weighted 61 key version and using a weighted keyboard connected to it through midi. I like this way because I play a lot of organ and electric piano so I don't have to compromise on keybed feel one way or the other. I also get the physical organ drawbars which is nice.

I'm not sure about your questions about the weighted keys because I have the semi weighted version, but the midi keyboard I use with my Nord has a Fatar keybed just like the Nord and it's very nice. Not sure if it's exactly the same. But very nice. Also, considering the price and who would be on these forums, this probably isn't the best place to here unbiased opinions about the feel of Nords. Just saying ;)

Ultimately, if you were to consider the route I've taken with my keyboard setup vs getting a weighted Nord, it comes down to how you play personally. If you are playing organ, do you play a lot of notes quickly? The weighted keys will wear you out if you're used to flying across an organ style keyboard, playing organ, for long periods of time. If your playing style is minimalistic on the organ and want to focus more on the feel of the piano then the fully weighted is a great way to go. It is also a very quick and easy to set up and break down when you have only one keyboard. My way is great for how I like to play and the options it brings, but it does require more time and thought to setup.

Also, if money isn't too tight, I would definitely go for the Electro 6 over the 5. The seamless transition feature looks really nice plus a couple of the other new features.

I know I am in the minority here, but I prefer the HP weighted feel for organ to the D waterfall action!! :o

I own a Stage 2EX HP and an Electro 3HP prior to that. The keys on both instruments were even.

The action eases up a bit with regular use. My experience has been that you need to play the HP action lighter than you think for the best expression.

Also, don’t be afraid to tinker with the velocity curves and EQ to get the most out of the instrument.
