Nord 5D splits sample section!

Postby tombitondo » 09 Apr 2018, 05:20

I just discovered that you can do a SPLIT using the sample section; and change range etc of each side. You cant change the sample but the split range can be different per side. Nice feature, probably limited but useful when layering with other keyboards. Was this a bug that Nord never caught? :?: :?: :?:

Not a bug. If you have a split you have to be able to change the range of the split, doesn't matter if its an organ/piano with a sample or a sample with a sample.

I use that a lot. It´s great to split a piano and just transpose the lower part (if you are on a 61 keys Electro) an octave down to "simulate" more keys, or have a delay on the upper part only on the same sound. Very usefull in many ways, not only for samples.

Top Tip electro friends! Thanks, just tried it with a Rhodes + Rhodes in the LH transposed down an octave for bass. Lovely.

Isn't this what the B3 + bass setting does?

B3+Bass is only making the Preset 1 drawbars a different sound/drawbar set.
Then of course it's great to use it when splitting keyboard, but it can also be used in regular A or B switching.
You can split Upper and Lower also when using the regular B3 dual sets of usual drawbars (or pipe, Fox Farfisa). Great for using a MIDI keyboard and having different drawbar settings on upper and lower!

Something I've noticed is that when splitting the same Sample/Piano sound one of the parts always appears to have lower key velocity.
Doesn't matter for organ as they're not velocity sensitive, but the other are always different, and come out different volume as a result.
I thought it was something MIDI related or related to my Yamaha keyboard that I'm running MIDI on Part Upper as I've never tried Piano/Piano or Sample/Sample on the NE5 keybed before, but trying it from this thread I realize it's the same problem also when only on the NE5.
Is it the same for others?
