newbie question - uploading piano sound

Post by quarkrad »

Apologies for, I guess, simple question. I would like to upload the White Grand XL 6.1 into a nord 6d. When I attempt to install I'm told I need, something like another 244Mb space - when I look in the Piano Tab I see there is currently 29 piano sounds. I've added up all the 29 piano file sizes and they come to approx 1Gb. So ..... is it the case that you have to delete 244Mb worth of the 29 existing piano sounds in order to make space for the White Grand? What surprises me is that many/most of the 29 sounds are very small compared to the 245Mb needed for the White Grand. Any advice appreciated

Hi, yes you need to delete some of the pianos to make space, XL pianos are much larger than the others because they are "fully mapped" (samples of all individual notes are included) while other sizes S/M/L are not.

You may want to save the existing set of samples and programs before you delete some of the bigger piano samples: You'll not only need to re-install those samples but also re-attribute them to the (once) related programs to get everything back how it was. Or you'll re-install the factory sounds bundle.

If you have disabled the memory-protect feature, you can do whatever you want to the samples and programs.

Thank you - I have a much better understanding. When you start to delete existing sounds, in order to make room for the XL file, is there an option to copy the sounds to your pc/laptop as they are removed from the nord? This way to go back to the nord ,pre installing the XL file, it would simply be removing the XL off and reloading the original files. The only other way I can see is to do a factory reset.

The Nord "piano bank" sounds can only be created by Nord. So I would think that anything that came preloaded on your (Electro 5? Electro 6?) could be re-loaded later from copies you could download to your computer from the Nord web site.

There are some exceptions, where people have noticed that the factory preload contains a newer version of some of these Nord-created "piano bank" sounds, than what can be downloaded from the Nord web site. But you can check before you delete any particular piano sound to see if you can download it from the Nord web site.

What harmonizer wrote + if you rename the Factory Backup file to .zip and unzip it, you can retrieve the individual piano samples files in it.
