Bought a used nord electro 6d 73 just over a month ago. I don't even know if it was reset to initial factor settings. I also want to add some patches and samples. So I am planning to download the program this afternoon and hook up the board.
The whole thing makes me nervous. I just don't want to f**** it up and have to find someone who can fix it. I got a one year warranty from guitar center, but I don't have a lot of faith in them.
Am I being silly? Is there anything to be nervous about?

Re: nervous about hooking nord up to computer
Don't be nervous, the only activity which may possibily create a little concern is an OS Update (but latest updaters are very reliable and fault-proof and I recommend you to update to the latest OS first of all, as I did when I got my NE6); then, as far as you use the Nord Sound Manager you cannot make any change than cannot be reverted, the full Factory backup is available in NE6 downloads to let you bring it all back just in case
And same for the Programs you will create yourself, save them using NSM and/or do a full backup from time to time, so you will always be on the safe side.

Re: nervous about hooking nord up to computer
Congrats! There are only a few scenarios where you can cause any damage, and they all involved deleting files which can easily be replaced.
My suggestion?
Start with using Sound Manager to backup your new Nord. There's a button on the app, just press it. Now you're 100% protected from making foolish mistakes. After that, feel free to start downloading sounds, changing them, etc.
Keep in mind, as you delete samples and replace them with others, many of the factory presets will "break", because the source samples aren't there any more. Never fear, dive in, because you can get back to a known starting point. As you make changes that you like, take more backups.
This way, it's fear-free experimentation, as you can always easily go back to something else.
