mid c problem

Postby davidshuffle » 06 Mar 2020, 11:37

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, had an electro 4 sw 73 for about 6 years. Stored it in a hard case, play it 7 times a week minimum for 1.5 hours at a pop. Yesterday the middle C key has lost sensitivity. It produces sound, but it is as if I am playing it as hard as possible. It's the only key that has this functioning problem. Might anyone please know what is up or how I might be able to fix it please? I've seen posts about debris in the case which may well be an issue but it's not like the key isn't functioning.. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Each key has two contacts. If the upper contact fails, the key will sound at full velocity.

So yes, it sounds as if your middle C has some gunk on the upper contact. It can be cleaned or replaced, and I believe there are several videos floating around on the net and here with instructions for for DIY approaches.

Alternatively, you could take it to someone that can fix it for you.

Thank you so much! That's really helpful. I tried to strip it down today, but I couldn't work out how to get to the rubber bits that people talk about above the sensors- do I take off the panel underneath the keys and leave the keys intact? Can I just take out the one key? I really appreciate your help. I use my keys everyday for work and gigs and having to send it off to get it fixed for 2 weeks is pretty debilitating so I am trying to do it myself. I'll seek the videos too.

I was going to suggest you just transpose everything to B, but sure, do it the hard way :P

Hahaha! Thanks again! I can only play in C which is why there's an issue. Next week I'm going to look at D, apparently it's like C but a real step up.
