Just got new Electro 6 today. B3 question

Postby maestrosteve » 03 Nov 2019, 05:14

Hi everyone.

I just got my Electro 6D 73 delivered today, and I've been playing it for hours going thru all the sounds.

I know that Nord tries to stay true to the classic instrument features, but me never having played a B3 organ, I was wondering if this is normal.

After playing notes, on the key up, there is a sound I can't really explain, and it's kind of loud. Only using the B3 or B3 Bass, not the other organs, and it's on every note.

Do you know what I mean, and is this normal and the way it is supposed to be?

It's normal behavior for a hammond. Key click is from the key making contact. It happens on key on, and off. Not sure if you can lower the click level on the 6. I can on the 5 and 4,,,

Thanks Crusty. I wasn't sure what that noise was. I'm trying to learn everything I can, really studying the owner's manual, and I was only on page 12 of the manual when I posted the question. When I got to page 28, there were some options that I messed around with and I think I was able to reduce, but not totally get rid of that sound. There were two B3 organ options in the SOUND MENU. One was B3 Organ Tonewheel Mode and the other was B3 Organ Click Level. I wasn't sure which one might help me, and I changed both options to the lowest level and it helped. Now I know which one was the one that helped.

Thanks for confirming for me what that sound was.

B3 tonewheel mode really just changes how much crosstalk there is on each note played. Clean will only play the selected harmonics for the notes you're playing, whereas Vintage3 has noise even when you're not playing anything.

I appreciate the responses. Another B3 question.

When you do the split to have upper and lower organ, and you are using the B3 bass on the lower, I have not been able to change the volume of the lower without the upper volume changing.

Am I missing something, or is that just the way it is?

You have to enable control pedal for upper and lower. It prolly lit on one and not the other.

Crusty,

So you need a pedal to make that happen? I'm not using a pedal. I'm just trying to adjust the volume between the upper and lower.

I just reread, that's normal behavior as well. The swell volume effects both upper and lower sounds. You could always control the volume of each manually by adjusting drawbars,,,

I thought that might be the case, but thanks for confirming it for me.

The key click level option you found is what will reduce the click sound when the key is lifted or depressed.

IIRC, the electro 5 (or 4, memory isn't the best) even had a "key bounce" mode you could toggle which would affect the sound of the key release if it was done very quickly.
