Re: How many different organ sounds do you actually use?
Wow, msavel, great sounds, great playing and one of my favourite musical pieces (Sheherazade)!

Re: How many different organ sounds do you actually use?
A local top pro played my 5D at a jam. I said I didn't hear much difference in the drawbar settings. I play standing up because I double on sax. He pointed out that I was not using an expression pedal and that would make a difference in the drawbar sounds. I got out my expression pedal and started using it. He was right. It makes a difference. Using the pedal and drawbars I make a lot of different organ sounds. I also switch back and forth from fast and slow Leslie. And I like the Farfisa sound for some tunes, especially cheezy 60's hits.

Agree - adding expression pedal to control volume (or saturation of distortion) makes a world of difference, and in combination with Leslie speed.
I often get away with playing only the song chords, as the above makes it interesting anyways...

Re: How many different organ sounds do you actually use?
I found using an expression pedal could be frustrating for both me and anyone running house sound, difficult to avoid either blasting or cutting out suddenly, though I greatly respect those who have mastered it.
Instead, I rarely have the drawbars out all the way, and use them to control the volume of the organ, achieving subtlety in dynamics I could not manage with my foot.
As for the percussion settings, I used them all the time on my NE2, but on the NE5 I have not figured out how to use them without creating a painfully harsh attack, even when I use compression within the board or on the mixer between the NE5 and my amp (a Quilter MicroPro, which is an amazing story all its own.)
I am mainly a piano player, too. I have barely begun to learn the possibilities of the whole NE5, true enough. However, the B3 as emulated on that board also strikes me as a vast, unexplored region of tonal possibilities, an amazing range of emotions. I envy those who have put in good time on a real B3 or other organ, who know exactly what they are working to emulate.

Re: How many different organ sounds do you actually use?
I believe that there are multiple organ settings for different musical styles, 2-3 programs for each style with two variants of sound each. Works. Exploring drawbar settings in web of the usual suspects also gives insight and inspiration. Not to forget the hints about rotary settings, use of foot pedal for Leslie control, reverb settings etc. etc. With some discipline in the band you can even use expression pedal for expression and not for volume
Recently I did a Cocker medley with a local brass band starting with a “whiter shade” setting modifying draw bars and percussion on the fly to something sitting great in the mix and storing it right away in its place in the NE5 set list. Try this live with a Motif and you learn to love the Nords

A quick update on this:
YouTube really is your friend. I watch and learn constantly. And I've gotten a lot better with the volume pedal.

Different settings but always Leslie 122 close. And if i use the chorus, then always c2 instead of c3 (to warbly in the Nord for my taste).

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear there. I haven't actually seen a video that focusses on the expression pedal.
What I meant is that just about every video of somebody playing Hammond organ has something for you to take away from. And by applying that to my own playing (and playing a lot), I've become better at it. Including - but not limited to - the pedal.
