Feature request: Pedal inputs + extern keyboard

Post by lerber3 »

I use my NE6D as an upper keyboard with a weighted lower controller MIDI'd in as an EXTERN keyboard. At the moment, I plug a sustain pedal into the weighted controller and the control pedal into the Nord and this covers almost all my needs. I only have 2 hands and 2 feet and I NEVER need independent sustain and/or control pedal inputs for each hand simultaneously. I do not want to buy (and set up, learn to use, actually use, break down, carry between gigs, etc) an extra sustain pedal and control pedal for the one or two songs (every night) that require a voice combination that needs control pedal input on the external keyboard or sustain on the Electro keyboard. I think my configuration and problem is likely a pretty common case for Electro owners.

Please provide a global option to apply Electro pedal inputs to all engines exactly as the CTRL and SUSTAIN LEDs are set regardless of which keyboard is playing the notes.

Thank you.

Anyway, just as a reminder, by writing here on NUF there is no guarantee that you requests will reach Nord, this forum is not affiliated with Clavia, you need to use the Support form on Nord website

I somewhat disagree...
1. Nord advocates this website as an important resource for their users... they would have to be idiots if they didn't check this forum for issues with their products. They are pretty obviously not idiots.
2. I titled this as a specific feature that would leave the behaviour (dumb as it is) of the current Electros unaffected.
3. I think my use case (Nord 6D as top keyboard of 2 keyboard stack) is probably very common... it is the ULTIMATE organ + piano/EP rig for R&B. It can easily be played with just the Electro alone in rehearsal (using splits) or with a beautifully weighted (but extremely dumb) controller under it. I picked the StudioLogic SL73, it has a Fatar action that nicely matches my old HP and almost no controls on top so 2 keyboards stack very compactly.

I still own a Stage classic, a Stage 3an Electro 5HP, , and an Electro 6D... in the past I have had Electro 2 61, Electro 2 73, C2, Electro 3HP... the 6D + weighted controller combo is totally the ultimate gigging Nord rig if you don't need synths much. I can load in with one trip carrying 2 keyboards, monitor in backpack, and keyboard stand.

I really want to add an extra sustain pedal and an extra control pedal to cover a couple of tunes that require those pedals on the 'wrong' keyboard. I don't think this is a dumb request and if others agree, perhaps sign on. Somebody at Nord must check the top couple of threads every once in a while. IMO, this would make the N6D perfect.

4. the best way to ensure Nord adds this feature is to keep the thread alive... maybe I'm wrong about how useful the feature is and nobody will care : )

Hi Lerber,

I have a Nord Electro 5D and an external MIDI keyboard same situation as you. I plug both the sustain pedal and control pedal into the Nord Electro.

On the 5 when you save a patch with a split between upper/lower, you can set which upper/lower patch is affected by the control pedal and sustain pedal via the LEDs using shift and the octave shift buttons on each part. Usually, I have the control pedal on an organ patch and sustain pedal on piano patch, but you can set it so it activates any combination or none or both on either patch (and hence either board). Just tested it right now and it works fine.

On the 6D it looks like the sustped/controlped functions have been moved from the middle in the 5 to each of the separate piano/organ/sample synth sections, and you have that easy access External Kbd to Lo setting? Are you sure this doesn't work by plugging both sustain/control pedal into the Nord and saving patches for the relevant combination for the songs you require? Unless they've somehow removed this compatibility in the 6?

I wrote "there is no gurantee" (that Nord will follow up), not that we shouldn't discuss about it on NUF or that request is dubm.

PS: Nord on their website advertise this forum as (literally) (..) forums for tips and tricks from other users (tips and tricks from users, not a way to request new features to Nord themselves.)
