Still trying to decide between the NS3 and the 6D and have a question about layering and polyphony: I need to layer 2 octaves of piano on one side of the keyboard and organ or another patch on the other side. The setups will vary from side to side, piano right side or left side with the other patch split opposite. How much polyphony do most piano samples require? Can I layer 2 piano octaves in 1 patch and will there be enough polyphony left to simultaneously play organ or another patch opposite? How are the effects assigned, any limitiations between reverb/delay on the piano side and effects on the other side?
Thanks

Re: Electro 6D Polyphony/Layering
You cannot layer 2 pianos on NE6 as there is 1 Piano section only. Sections are independent i.e. they don’t share polyphony. Polyphony of each section is written in NE6 specs on Nord website.
PS:NE6 manual is concise and a quick read will answer all your questions, including effects assignment
PS2: being your first post at least a “Hi”to the forum would have been nice

...though there are also some pianos you can load into the sample section, which may be usable for the purpose at hand (creating an octave layer).

I'm just content when someone's first post on a forum isn't an attempt to sell something.

In that case he/she would be banned, do you imply good manners are “old fashioned”?
Anyway, not a “big issue”

Re: Electro 6D Polyphony/Layering
Hello, thanks for your replies. Do either of you know whether the NS3 allows for the layering of pianos with 2 octaves?
While I agree that being polite is a nice thing, pointing out when someone isn't polite because they didn't say hi (an adult) might be considered impolite, in and of itself.
Thanks

Re: Electro 6D Polyphony/Layering
I suspect that many newcomers here may suffer under the misguided impression that this is a commercial website run by Nord for the benefit of its customers. As such, perhaps there is a sense of entitlement to support services from this forum, and therefore less perceived need for such niceties as saying HI!
For these kinds of reasons, I am usually inclined to give newcomers a little slack...

You have a good point, apologies if my remark sounded rude, it wasn't meant to
(And... yes you can layer 2 pianos shifted by octave on the NS3)

This is quite an intriguing requirement to base the purchase of a keyboard on. Could you provide a little more detail into this use case? Do you have one or two songs in mind, or do you always require a split with octave piano plus other? There may be other strategies available using Electro or Stage to achieve your sound.

Re: Electro 6D Polyphony/Layering
Count,
I play quite a bit of reggae, ska and latin music and most of the rhythm parts either require or are benefited by 2 octaves of piano. Obviously, if I can layer the piano like I'm able to on my Korg and Roland boards, it frees up a hand for everything else. I'm trying to reduce my live rig from 3 boards to 2, so splits are becoming more of a necessity. And none of the rest of my rig can touch the organ on the Nord boards.
