Electro 5d sound quality vs nord stage classic

Postby jazzcat88 » 26 May 2018, 08:37

After doing gigs for years with the stage classic I decided to save my strength on some gigs and got the electro 5d. It just seems that especially on the piano sounds the electro seems to thin out going to upwards compared to the stage, and i’m using the same sample. Has anyone else noticed this? It just doesn’t have the punch you need up top when playing solos etc.
Could it have something to do with different output convertors or something?

Which stage are you comparing to?

Are you using the same version of the samples (Small, Medium, Large or XL)?

I'm assuming there are no other changes, i.e. you're playing through the same amp, in the same room. And since you talked about saving strength, I'm also assuming your Stage was a 76 or 88 (hammer action) version. Weighted and semi-weighted keys do respond differently.

So, two things... (1) Have you tried the different KBD TOUCH settings on the E5D? (2) Try running a MIDI cable from the Stage MIDI Out to he NE5D MIDI In, to see how the E5D sounds when played from the Stage's keys, which may help determine whether the difference is due to the actions or rather due to other differences in the machines.

I’m comparing to the stage 1. Yeah I know about the kdb touch settings and the sample size was a bit smaller on the stage using the same sample. It could that the difference in touch affects the way I hear it, but knowing that I’ve tried to take that out of the equation and it still seems that the sound especially in the upper octaves isn’t as punchy. But thanks for the tip, will try the midi thing!
