Electro 5D as MIDI controller?

Post by thesuitelounge »

Does anyone use their Electro (Waterfall keys) as a midi controller (for playing/programing drum plug ins, soft synths, etc)? Wonder if/how it works for you. Thanks

The E5 isn't really a MIDI controller. It'll do a few things, but if you need a lot of MIDI control for different devices and software, better to get something dedicated to the task.

Thanks I understand the NE5D is not designed ideally/specifically as a midi controller, but what I am trying to find out is if anyone has had positive experience or success using the NE5D keyboard to play soft synths/program drums in software (the same way it can play samples from the Nord library)...if the keyboard is velocity sensitive enough to do this.

Of course it can. It's just a normal velocity sensitive keyboard like any other.

And couldn't you just have asked the right question in the first place?

i'm using it to control some functions within MainStage 3 with good success ..you can assign Mod wheel stuff to a drawbar to control filter or volume etc.(i'm using that on Omnisphere) also i control VB3 and Melda's leslie plugin as well as the MainStage Leslie plug in and distortion plug...i have almost all controls setup in the vB3's case to control say Percussion on/off,chorus vibrato on/off all drawbars etc..you have to have an organ patch on the Electro 5D to have the buttons work properly, but i have the Electro organ blended out to zero on the blend knob .. i also have reverb and echo( within MainStage) assigned to rotary knobs on the E5D
