Actually, I don’t really think about it until someone brings this thread up again. And now that we’re not gigging, it means even less to me.

Hello, the 9th Drawbar on my Nord Electro 4D will not allow me to Cancel when Percussion is Activated. Is there something other than setting the Perc Drawbar 9 to Cancel that needs to be done in order for this feature to work? I want this feature to mimic the behavior of an original organ.

SAME ISSUE HERE

This cancelling of drawbar 9 when enabling percussion is an ESSENTIAL feature, I don't understand why this disappeared.
It makes my Yamaha Reface YC a better option...

Well, the Reface YC is a fine board but I don't think the loss of the Drawbar 9 feature on the Nord line should send one running to it. You can make presets that duplicate your fave registrations with percussion and have the 9th cancelled there.

Now, if you are the kind of Hammond organist who is continually changing your registration and percussion settings mid-song AND need the 9th to drop while doing so, then you are a pretty serious B3 type, playing to a discriminating audience who will notice - so you should probably be using a Hammond or Crumar board.

The B3 has become something of an after-thought on Clavia's line now - they stopped making dedicated organs, and they haven't made any significant improvements to the organ features or rotary samples on the Electro or Stage for some time.

This is an old thread - no-one knows why it disappeared and no-one ever will, since Clavia doesn't provide those kinds of answers or support. That, we all live with.

That wasn't exactly what I meant, but I recently bought one and was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. The drawbar 9 function and the fact that the rotary simulation always ends in a different position at a full stop gives a much more authentic feeling. I didn't expect this as a Nord enthusiast...

Thank you for the advice! You're right, but I still think it's a shame because it only seems like a minor adjustment to the software...

Oh I agree - why they removed it has been open speculation.

And I'll be honest - when I bought my Electro 4D, I had very little experience (none) with Hammonds, so I didn't even know about the 9th drawbar drop-off with percussion activated. I first thought it was a bug! Only when I did some Googling did I see that yeah, this is what B3s do. So that was cool - then it was gone when I got the Electro 6D.

I also preferred the digital sliders on my 4D to the mechanical ones on the 6D. That puts me in a minority, I know. But the digitals changed to reflect a given registration preset - the mechanicals obviously cannot.

So if my mechanicals are in a Jimmy Smith registration (88 8000 000), but I'm using a preset in a Squabble (80 0008 888), that can be confusing...and a problem if I want to make a minor adjustment, since the actual drawbars are so out of whack with the preset.

I also think the rotary on the 6D sounds a little different and not as cool as the one on the 4D. I couldn't tell you why, esp since now I don't have a 4D to compare, but it struck me right away.

Wasn‘t the 4D the first model that replaced the optical ones by the „real“ drawbars? And wasn‘t the D in its name the sign for it? If I remember correctly these drawbars were the only reason for me for thinking twice whether to buy the heavyly discounted NE3 or the new NE4D.

Actually the NE4D SW61 had physical drawbars (and was the only model holding the "D", in its name for that reason) NE4 SW73 and HP73 still had digital ones (so I guess Gambold had one of these 2). See https://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-electro-4
