Hey there,
I finally found a way to use half-pedalling sustain pedals on Nord Electro 6!
Connect the sustain pedal (like Roland FP10) to CONTROL PEDAL (!).
Set SYSTEM/MIDI LOCAL OFF.
Use two different tracks in the DAW to process the incoming MIDI from Nord Electro:
The first one is used just for playback via local Nord Electro sound engine, for monitoring purposes. Therefore transform MIDI CC11 (expression) via a MIDI-message transform plugin into CC64 (sustain) (Steinberg Cubase Pro MIDI Transform Inserst Effect, e.g.). To avoid those errors in pedalling with continuous sustain pedals some users described here before, just use two more transformations: Transformer #2 fixes the value of CC64 data to “0”, if the incoming value is smaller than 80. Tranformation #3 fixes the value of CC64 data to “127”, if the incoming value is higher than 81. That gives quite a number of “0”s and “127”s, but the Electro won’t mind, and since this is only for monitoring, not for recording, it is to be neglected, IMHO.
For recording, I use a separate MIDI-track in my DAW, that also recieves MIDI from the Electro. This one uses only the first transformator (the one that translates CC11 into CC64). The output of this track can be routed to any VSTi or hardware synth, that recieves and interprets half-pedalling correctly.
Quite complex, but works perfectly!
