Choosing a master keyboard

Postby Dom21fr » 01 May 2021, 11:59

Hello
A weird newbie question!
I would like to add a master keyboard to my NE6D.
I first thought of a small master keyboard like Arturia Keystep Pro.
Then I thought that if a synthesizer could do the job, it wouldn't be too bad, I could use sounds from the synthesizer. I thought of a Novation MiniNova.
My questions :
1) can this synthesizer be used as a master keyboard for the NE6D? (it has Midi In and Out sockets)
2) and conversely, could the NE6D be used as a master keyboard for the synthesizer ?
3) but is this choice really wise, or is it better to stay on the Arturia (to take advantage of the sequencer for example)?
Thanks in advance to those who will answer me. :thanks:
Dom...

Hi Dom,

you didn't tell what you are after. What do you want? If you've got a NE6D, there might be 3 reasons imaginable why you want a 2nd keyboard as controller board:
a) DualKB organ
b) piano sounds not playable to your liking on the NE6D keybed
c) not enough space to split sounds on the one keyboard (especially if it's a NE6D-61)

So what would your second keyboard be for?
Stage 3 Compact (Rev.B 2.1 - OS 2.60) - Kawai VPC1 / Yamaha CP33 - Hall of Fame & NeoVent2 - Behringer Flow-8 - K&M stands 18820+18811 / 18953+18952 - Samsung tablet with MobileSheetsPro & AirTurn Duo200 - QSC K8.2s / Fischer InEars

Ah yes, the use!
It's mostly to split sounds and have for example the piano or organ on the NE6D73 and the synthesizer on the master keyboard. 37 keys are enough.
A simpler master keyboard than the ones I mentioned is possible, but I am interested in a sequencer.

Very good that you know what you want!

And probably will mean the master key is above the Electro. Next question: How much space will you be able to give between the two instruments? Which will result in the question: Is it easier to control the ensemble from below or from above?

What you would need is a 'simple' master keyboard with real MIDI-out (DIN 5-pin) and its own power supply. Which isn't self-evident any more.

Of course, you can play an external sound generator from the Electro, too - you would need either a MIDI-in (DIN 5-pin) or maybe a USB-host (haven't tried that) on that unit.

Practical questions about sequencer things have to be answered from other persons - I don't use that at all.
