Best complementary keyboard

Post by NeFerreira »

Hello, I have a E6D. My band do not have a bass player so I always use the sample section for a bass sounds. But when I need a Piano+Pad/Strings/Other thing + Bass it becomes almost impossible. I know I can sample them but then I can't use Envelope knobs. I would like to have another keyboard that allows me to create synth sounds and samples. What keyboard do you recommend?

A Yamaha MoDX (or a CK if its internal sounds are enough for you), synth or HA versions, depending on your needs.

A lot of Nord users do like the Yamaha MODX as an addition - I have been thinking of one myself as it does so many things and is easy to carry...keyboard action on the 61 and 76 is not as great, though you get what you pay for and upgrade to the Montage if that's a priority. I was thinking of one as mostly a sound module off to the side of the stage.

Another option if you want to stick with a single board is to upgrade to a Nord Stage - you could look at NS2, NS3, NS4. All would do what you need in a single board.
Nords: NE2, NS2 88, NS3 Compact x 2
Live rig: NS3, Vent, Radial KL-8, Shure PSM-900 IEM Rig, UE18 & UE7 IEMs.
Studio: Hammond A-101 & Leslie 122, Yamaha CP-80, Yamaha S90, NS2, DSI Prophet-6, Vent II, Roland JX-8P.

I can recommend the KORG KROSS 2 - it has lots of brass, synth pads and leads, strings, even a blues harp and a sax which are quite useful. At only 4 kg weight and a price of ca. 800 $ I think it offers much more than you would expect. I play its pre-predecessor X50 and can only say I love it.

The organs and pianos are acceptable enough so that I sometimes only take this board to rehearsal, when I‘m lazy.

Cheers from Germany

The Nord Electro does many things well, but it doesn't have analog synth features. I use my Electro for piano, organ, and sampled sounds. For synth sounds I use a Novation Ultranova. Pretty much any dedicated synth can be more expressive than the sampled synth sounds in the Nord sample library.

It looks like a good keyboard, the only thing I do not like is that it have a lot of menus but at least it is 1000€ cheaper than a wave 2

Do not look like a synth, I want to create synth sounds because my E6D already have synth samples

Can I load samples? Like real e. bass, strings...?

Yep, I can well understand that. Very, very rarely I do this myself, but then I don‘t use my korg. I MIDI-connect my iPad and use one of my apps iMini or Model D which give me quite good Moog-options.

Maybe one of the cheap Behringer Synths Deep Mind or Poly D could be interesting for you.

Let us know if you want.

I don't think so, as he asked the below...
