Is it unreasonable to expect manufacturers to include some of the 'standard tweaks' we do to our beloved Hammond A100's etc.?
This B2 has no problem addressing the volume drop on perc normal,It's a TrekII and will cook my V21 if I'm not careful.
They have the 'string pluck bass' down,at Nord well enough (thanks TrekII)....
How tough would it be to add software to bypass the perc normal volume drop? Double clutch the soft tab maybe?
None of the clone makers have this on the menu yet(?) many of us have R1 bypassed,or at least 'switchable'.
I want my full volume drawbars WITH perc normal thanks. This is where the Hammond still blows the C2D away IMO.
Same for the spinny boxes, the Ventilator is at best 'tolerable',I never use the Nord sim,too many real Leslies around here.

This is my single pet peeve of clones.None of them have this that I know of,although maybe Viscount has addressed this 'custom feature'?
Knowing these guys, they'll add it to the next clone for sure,in the meanwhile they could add this feature to a C2D not too much trouble methinks?

As far as adding other sounds to a clone, let's get them to improve the Hammond chorus and perc/norm volume drop before we start stuffing a NS3C into one.
For now at least, thrilled to have both on stage.
C2D won't be replacing the studio A100 any time soon.Nor will the Stage 3 Compact replace the YAMAHA C7 for that matter.

Rob Mills,

where on earth did you get that picture of a potential dual-manual Electro?? Did you photoshop that or is it a real pic?

This would be a dream set-up for me as I need an organ interface and high-quality AP's/EP's and Synths.

Thanks Mike

My brand spanking new DMC-122 arrived this week. Just waiting for the expansion module early next week and I'm away. Just sayin.

I built myself a dual-manual electro, as I gave up dreaming/waiting. I features waterfall keybeds top and bottom, but it does mean I can mix organ and EP/Piano sounds top and bottom (thanks to the capability of the E5D). I've gigged with it for over a year now, and it's held up very well and means I have every option at my fingertips!

I think Nord need to consider this in some form in the future...their answer to the SK range, as Hammond really haven't quite got it sussed, particularly in the Piano department. Should I go into business manufacturing these lower manuals for Nord Electro users!?

Very cool. Is the lower manual a MIDI connected controller?

I'm planning to do something like that, but having problems finding a suitable complete MIDI board to match the E-E on the NE5D 73.
How did You make Your lower keybed? Looks like You built Your own..? Difficult/expensive?

Yes, it's connected via Midi. The lower Keybed is identical to the upper (Nord) one, a Fatar TP-80, with a Doepfer MKE midi connector circuit. I also have a Midi Solutions midi converter so I can match the velocity curve a bit nearer to the Nord's response. The Keybed was about £180, plus £50 for the MKE circuit and £50 for the Midi converter (found one on eBay). The wood cost about £40, plus a few quid for the red stain and varnish.

Relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to build. Think of it as I've built my own lower manual, similar to the Hammond XK lower manual. But Nord would do a much better job of it than I have done...but an official dual manual Electro would be the dream! Much like the mock up on the previous page of this thread (great work!).

Sounds like a fun build!

Have You considered having pitch/mod control as well or is that not something You'd use anyways?
I'm struggling with wanting those as well, but then having full length lower keybed would either be compromised or cause the build to get wider than I really want...

My simplistic thinking so far has been to simply buy a M-audio 61 MIDI board and build both into a cabinet.
Not at all as fun as Your build though, and I'd lose out on both the highest and lowest keys on the lower manual...
Would sit something like this:

Yeh, that's similar to how I first envisaged the project...basically buying a cheaper Electro 2 or 3 and building a cabinet for both, but realised, all I really needed (thanks to the dual sound engine of the NE5D) was a second keybed. My main objective was to come up with something the same dimensions as a C2/C2D. I also wanted two manuals for playing organ, so any additional keyboards would need to go Midi In to my NE5D to go through the leslie sim, rendering any buttons on a second keyboard mostly redundant...although, a full second keyboard might have the added benefit of pitch bend as you suggest. It's difficult to come up with a solution that's suits everyone's needs, but Nord get closer than anyone else.

I'm after the same thing - strict MIDI control and use the NE5D for sounds.
At home I'm using my Yamaha P-155 as lower keybed, but it's too big and heavy to lug around for strict MIDI use.

My main use would be dual manual organ, but I do have use for a couple of other combinations.
For example playing piano on some songs where I add organ on chorus etc, where it's really flexible to run organ/piano layered on the NE5 since the piano is then solo on the MIDI keys.

But since the NE5 accepts pitch shift MIDI control and the mod wheel could be programmed to MIDI control effect 1 or 2, I'm thinking having those should be useful for synth-ish sample sounds.
