Hard Case for C-2

Postby Mooser » 27 Dec 2011, 22:55

I'm not sure if the gig-bag sold for the Nord is quite what I want. Does anybody know of a hard-case for the Nord C-2? I don't need a full on flight-case, in fact I would prefer something much lighter. Something that could be tossed into the back seat or ride in the back of a pick-up, but not necessarily have other amps, instruments piled on top of it.

My first choice would be a ready made hard case. If the case must be custom made, does anybody know of a case maker in the Seattle area? The gig-bag offered as an accessory looks nice, but I think I could buy a light hard case for about the same money.

Can anybody give me some info on this? :thanx:

Not sure if this is of much help Mooser, but the Nord gig bag is great for the use you describe. I've had mine for 4 years and it's only just starting to show signs of wear.

Thanks for replying. I very well may end up with the Nord bag. I heard one of one person in my area who got a hard case for a C1 from "BT productions"
How well padded is the Nord soft case? I have seen waterfall type keyboards which have had keys snapped off, inside a soft case from bumping a wall or doorframe.

Okay! Just got done ordering a Level 2 hard case (The Roadie Jr.) from "Road Cases USA" (http://www.roadcasesusa.com/keyboard-ca ... and-model/) out on Long Island, where they all talk like I used to.
Cost me $149, includes shipping.
I was a little nervous, as there are a million 61-key cases, hard and soft, which won't fit a C-2 due to the second manual, but "Tony" at Road Cases USA cross checked and assures me this one will. It'll arrive in about a week, and I'll let you know how it is.
Why didn't they just put some black plastic sides on the C-2, instead of that nicely-stained and beautifully clear-coated wood?

I am also waiting for a hard case for my C-2. The fellows up the road have built me two other cases, which are great. I have been tempted to take the C2 out, but did not even use it New Years for fear of smacking it up. Not to mention I have not taken a new keyboard to a gig in a cardboard box in twenty five years!! I looked at the Nord soft case, but it wasn't cheap at all. Cheers Mike

I also purchased the Roady hard case. Matching RED for the C2. I also had wheels put on it. I paid around 200 bucks delivered. I think I'd have done better getting a good hard case from guitar center and gluing some red naugahyde on the sides. At least the wheels on their case (which I own for my Motif) is very stable and has recessed wheels. Not surface mount like the Roadie I purchased. I can't stand that one on the wheel end or it falls over. Don't want to do that.

I have hauled my nord combos C1/C2 in the nord gig bag since 2007 with no problems.
Just about every week to rehearsals in my car. From Gothenburg to Stockholm (500 km) on the train. The wheels are perfect.
No damage yet.
As long as you move it yourself it's fine. On planes and with hauling companies a hard case i probably better.
But for every day to and from gigs and in and out of cars the Nord bag (or similar) works well. The wheels makes a big diff.
Regards Frederick

Oh, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-coming down the street, oh please let it be for me!
Is it some salmon from Seattle?
A new rockin' chair? A cannon for the courthouse square?
Nope, it's just the hard case I ordered from "Road Cases USA" delivered by UPS. The case fits the C-2 like a glove. The case and organ makes a very manageable, compact load, easily carried with the handle. Organ-36 lbs., case, about 20, total 56 lbs. The latches are the "draw-down" type, and the handle is spring-loaded, and another latch has a key-lock.
The case was supplied with some extra foam, but the organ fits very snugly in the case without it.
Here's a tip: The C-2 was loaded into the shipping box with fitted foam ends. These ends are easily trimmed, and glued into the lid of the case, and come down fitted to the drop between the top and bottom manuals. They hold the organ tightly in place, and make sure the projecting knobs do not bear against the lid of the case, and the organ cannot shift within the case.
While the Nord soft bag does have a compartment to hold a stand and music rack, I am very pleased with this hard case. For $149.00 delivered, it seems just right. If the organ will be handled by others (I don't rate that kind of treatment, especially not if they've already heard me play) stuffed in a truck with other gear piled on top, there are heavier versions, with more reinforcement on offer, but being heavier, they weigh more! (think about it) This one seems fine for my use.
I put the three Nord stickers (the ones that say "Nord") on the case, and feel pretty snazzy. End-wheel kits are available as an option, and just screw on.

BTW, I noticed that one retailer, Kraft Music is selling a "bundle" package with the Nord C-2 that includes a
Kaces 9KB bag, which they say will fit the C-2. This is a lightweight bag with two outside pockets which sells for around $50 and should have the proper inside dimensions for the C-2

I can see the soft case being good in the case of moving ones own gear. Invariably I get fellows that want to help, the hard case allays my OCD in those cases. Not to mention as Mooser said, I too have to pile, cram ,stuff, all my gear into a station wagon. Cheers Mike Still don't want help wrapping cable!!!

So here I am, getting all proud of myself because I can stop hauling my C-2 around in a cardboard box (which I can now use to add another room to my house) and Nord is releasing a new organ, the C2D, which will make my C2 obsolete! I just barely got the thing! Now, in addition to all the wise-guys who inevitably ask "Why didn't you get a real Hammond organ?", I'll have people asking me "Why didn't you wait and get the new C2D?"
Story of my life, I tell ya'! I should have known that just as soon as I plunked down my wife's hard-earned money for a C2, Nord would bring out a new and improved model. I can just hear them at Clavia over in Sweden: "Okay, Mooser bought a C2, time to release the new model!"
