C2D End Panels?

Postby havlicek » 20 Oct 2012, 05:06

Can anyone tell me if the end (side) panels on the C2D are made of wood? I'm considering the organ as a replacement for my BX3 and really like what I hear and see. What I'd like to do is install threaded inserts on those end panel tops for a removable shelf to carry my Motif.

If they are as nicely finished as in the NS2, I would suffer to see those drilled...

Thanks for the replies.

If a person is competent, drilling them for 1/4-20 threaded inserts is not difficult to do cleanly and it surely doesn't harm the appearance. I did it on my BX3 (which has awfully nice looking "cabinetry" as well) and it's barely noticable and really just looks like a functional item the factory added.

As a side note, I applaud Clavia/Nord on the C2D. I never thought there would be an organ I'd consider getting to replace the BX3, but here I am!

I see. In the NS2 (don't know about the C2D) the thinnest part if the wood panel is 17mm thick and near the middle it is 20mm thick.
Post a photo if you do this, I would be interested to see how this shelf looks.

The wood is definitely sufficiently thick for my purposes so thanks for the info again. I will post a photo of the setup with my BX3, the C2D would be done in the same way and it makes for a cleaner setup. I would also make matching folding legs for the C2D to complete the "look" and function. Thanks again.

Here's a photo of what I have now, and what i would do with the C2D. The underside of the aluminum brackets is lined with felt so they don't mar the finish of the top of the organ side panels. I've used this arrangement for gigs as well as in the studio for many years now and it has worked out really well. I also mounted a small led light under the shelf to illuminate the organ's controls...a big help on the average dark stage:
