Arranging Presets

Postby BC_C2D » 05 Jul 2018, 13:06

Hi,

Just interested in hearing how you guys arrange your presets. Do you follow some pattern or progression (clean to dirty)?

Thanks

I use the Song Mode (I have the NS3). I tried to arrange all of my programs by some sort of category, but it became too time consuming and painful to keep organized.

If you have a Nord Stage 3, page 28 of the user manual explains it well. In Song Mode, a "Song" is a set of pointers (referred to as "Song Parts") to existing programs. There are 8 banks of songs with 50 songs per bank and each bank can have 5 Song Parts each. If I did the math right, that allows you to have 2,000 pointers to existing programs. And being able to easily arrange them in banks makes it very convenient.

I use Song Mode to organize my favorite programs, e.g. "My Pianos", "My EPianos", "My Pads", "My Strings", "My Brass" etc.

I also use Song Mode to arrange sets. If I know the set list that I'll be playing as well as the order we will play the tunes, I'll create a Song that has all of the Song Parts intuitively arranged so I only have to push one button to get set up for the next song we are going to play. And with Nord's seamless transitions, it makes moving from one song to another really smooth.

I've also used Live Mode, which is an awesome feature. On the NS3 you have 5 Live Mode slots, where you can put your favorite, most used sounds, e.g. a piano, an electric piano, an organ, etc. The only thing you need to remember with Live Mode is that any change you make is immediately saved (as opposed to Songs and Programs, where you have to explicitly save them). (The only thing I haven't figured out with Live Mode yet is how to name them -- they show up as "Live 1", "Live 2", etc.)

Now of course, if you are not using the Nord Stage 3, you may need to forget what I said! :) . This is my first Nord, so I don't know if other Nord keyboards have the same features.

Quick correction -- There are 8 banks of songs with 50 songs per bank and each song (not bank) can have 5 Song Parts each.

No problem. Thanks for the reply.

I don’t think the C2D has a song mode. But it might.
