Sound Manager - USB Driver Error - Windows 10, 11

Postby Jo Marino » 23 Nov 2021, 19:45

Hi Community, I installed the latest version of the USB driver and the Nord Sound Manager on my new Microsoft Surface computer, running on Windows 10 Pro.
Here is what happens upon connecting may NS3: The computer recognizes a Nord Stage 3, but at the same time shows the message "driver error". Probably because of that, the Sound Manager does not communicate with the NS3.
What can I do?
Does the latest version of the USB driver not support Windows 10 Pro?
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Jo,

You don't need to install the driver since 2010. Since the 2010 version 5.28 of the Nord Sound Manager Setup, the Nord Sound Manager Setup will automatically install the Clavia USB Driver.
Next to that if you encounter problems:

  • Make sure that no applications are running on the computer when you run the installer, and that includes any virus applications and other helper applications that are active in the background.
  • Make sure that you are logged in to the computer with administrator privileges.
  • If connecting the Nord unit does not activate the driver, try another (and perhaps shorter) USB cable.
  • Connect the Nord unit directly to a USB port on the computer, and not via a USB hub or by daisy-chaining it to a computer keyboard.
  • If you get stuck, please document all error messages and/or unexpected behaviors and file a support request on the Nord Keyboards web- site.

And some remarks on the driver installer:

The installer will run on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7/8/10 and will automatically determine if you use a 32- or 64-bit system. Use this installer if Windows 10 has problems automatically installing the Driver when connecting an instrument.

Just copied this from the installation manual from the NordKeyboards.com website

I don't own a Surface laptop so I can't tell if this should work (or not).

Hi Bart,

many thanks for reverting so promptly.

Tried it all, but result always the same: Windows says: "Device ready to use" and then "Driver Error" -Sound Manager says "please connect instrument".

An yes, I am not allowed to kill processes such as Windows Malware Protection, even though I am the administrator of my own computer. Could these be the problem? How can I kill these processes?

Other than that,if anyone out there has a Microsoft Surface Windows 10 Pro, I would be more than happy if you could try to run the Sound Manager with your instrument on this computer.

Thanks again, Jo

Hi Jo,

Mmm... you probably don't want to disable the antivirus software.
I normally use a mac(book pro) for running the sound manager, but I tried installing the Nord Sound Manager on my company (Windows 10 Enterprise) laptop.
It just installed fine (no need to install the separate Nord drivers - since they are included since version 5.28) and I can connect to my NS2 without any problems at all.
I haven't disabled the bitdefender AV.

Should be the same for NS3.

Can you exclude your computer and try another system?

did you check the event viewer for errors? Maybe that will give you a more detailed indication of the problem ...

Also, test various USB ports, if there are any on the Surface computer.

I have often had USB problems of all kinds due to cables that are too long or bad (too little voltage reaches the device).
I would recommend the shortest possible cables. If available, also test different ones. The differences are sometimes enormous (even with the same length. I have often checked this with measuring devices).

Much luck..

A Nord fellow had the exact same problem on his Surface Pro tablet. Strange enough, it did work on an older version of Surface tablet.
Never got it to work on the Surface Pro : this is clearly an issue in Windows 10 on this tablet that have something special.

Same issue here..
I have a new laptop (ZBook G8 Studio running win10pro) where I cannot load the Clavia driver. Also errorcode #39.
If I connect my Electro 5 to the old laptop (ZBook G5 also running win10pro), the connection is all fine, and no problems at all..

drivers are the same, windows version is the same, I tried older Sound Managers without any luck.

Anyone any ideas? I'm running out.

Hi, just as an idea - are you connecting the Electro 5 to a USB 3 port (blue) at your new laptop?

If so, can you probably disable USB 3 in the BIOS settings for just a test? That might revert the USB 3 port back to USB 2 and probably work

Also in case you have installed the Clavia USB driver please uninstall it as it should not be needed anymore and may cause some interferences

Please also check this: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3017455-2859555-16

Hi @Schorsch,

thanks for this one, good idea, but unfortunately this didn't work out for me.

Only difference in my two laptops I can see is that the new one is running on Windows 10 Pro 21H2 OS build 19044.1415
and the other one is running Windows 10 Pro 20H2 OS build 19042.1415

other than that, no differences.

The device manager recognizes the Electro 5, and tries to load the Clavia 64-bit USB Driver, but that's where the problem comes up:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code39)"

what's your OS version?

Are there more people with this issue?
