This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

That’s the big difference in my experience between Nord and others: they all supply „perfect“, idealised instruments that can be messed up in FX etc.

Nord supplies actual, real instruments. They’re not perfect. Just like in real life.

Quick question on this - does the Nord Electro 6 now ship with the White Grand installed, or would I have to do it?

I highly doubt it. The factory presets will most likely include the latest piano at the time of the electro 6 release. It's also possible you'll be getting stock that Nord shipped out to the store well before the white grand was released. It's very simple and straightforward to install with the Nord sound manager.

White Grand most realistic Nord piano for solo recordings?

Postby michael_C1 » 18 Sep 2019, 23:27

It's been quite a while since I've posted, and there are a lot of new folks here, so the Nord community is thriving!

My question has to do with finding a good realistic sounding choice for recording solo piano, other than software, and specifically whether the White Grand or perhaps another Nord piano might sound convincing in a solo piano recording.

I downloaded today, and have been playing the White Grand. The resonance seems more realistic although it's still an algorhythm, and the piano seems more 'organic' to me. Maybe it's about the larger sample size, I haven't a clue. But I'm enjoying it a lot.

Opinions about getting a realistic solo piano recording out of White, or another Nord piano would be appreciated.

Can anyone say whether or not the White Grand is a good choice for realistic solo piano recordings? Any other Nord piano recommendations for solo recordings if not the White Grand?

I've used VI's in the past, and some of these have a lot of realism and work well for slower music. The Vintage D is especially realistic. But the 'mind to key to sound' synergy I haven't found yet with VI's when the music calls for moderate to fast playing or recording. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think it's a pretty good choice. It's Nords best sample yet imo. I'd also recommend the studio grand 1 and perhaps the Italian grand, or the concert grand close, depending on your taste.

For recording solo piano, the white Grand is very expressive. But others are too, so it depends on what sound characteristics you're searching.

The Royal and the Velvet should also be considered, and maybe even the Imperial. Studio Grand 2 is also interesting. And don't forget to check eg the Amber or Mellow uprights!

Check the responses you got in the other thread where you asked the same question.

Note that the resonance is not just artificially created, it is using recordings of actual strings and keystrokes with the pedal down, as far as I can hear.

Is the White Grand a Steinway Model B? In another thread someone said it was a different piano, but if you press piano info on the nord when using this sample it says “Stw B”
