Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.
I know you guys will do this finally right, because all the other manufacturers don't.
- A decent keybed
- compact design
- quality encoders
- 49, 61, 73, 88 version
- usb powered
- decent controllers
The good people at Nord are admittedly very clever, and it would be cool to see what they would come up with if they turned their attention to designing a midi controller keyboard, but....don't hold your breath for that one. Chances of that happening are roughly equivalent to chances of the orangutan currently residing in the White House admitting that it was all a joke and resigning his office.
Nord is and has always been about generating SOUND. The exceptions are limited to drum pad/triggers and the PK27, which only exists to complete the C2D package. Based on past behavior it seems clear that Nord is only interested in stuff which makes noise. This is what floats their boat. Controllers are lifeless and boring and simply not interesting enough to spark their collective imagination, not the way sound engines do. There are already a TON of such devices on the market, most of them at really low price points. With no big profit motive to be had, and no big artistic motive to fulfill, this is simply not likely to happen.
If it did, I'd be the second customer, in line right behind you. The External Section of the Stage models is a brilliant and elegantly designed idea, super simple in application.
bless, pablo

Getting back to the subject at hand... if memory serves, the last “boutique” company to try their hand at a premium-quality traditional controller was Infinite Response, with their Vax 77. (Oh, how I wanted one of those back then!)
Sadly, the company couldn’t seem to make a go of it, and left the music market relatively quickly.

I've never understood why you don't find more controller keyboards with a decent audio interface built-in? Seems an obvious thing to do to me and would save having extra clutter when using a laptop on stage. Maybe Nord will be the one to do this - it would be great if a future Nord Stage had a built-in USB audio interface too (or would it have to be called the Nord Studio? Now there's an idea!)
