- A decent keybed
- compact design
- quality encoders
- 49, 61, 73, 88 version
- usb powered
- decent controllers

I'll be your first customer.
Please :)

Do you recon Clavia deals with the decent keybeds???
I am very doubting on that...
There are plethora of Midi controllers like Akai which are more then accaptable.

Lets give Clavia a chance to cope with their trouble some issues and move away from Fatal (r) sh...t

I think it's probably not worth the added cost. Boards that have this feature already have their own sounds, so probably most of what would be needed is already in the board (i.e. digital-to-analog converters, audio connections). So then it wouldn't cost as much to add as it would to add that function to a soundless controller, where it would probably add just as much to the price as buying a separate interface, while also removing the benefit of letting you choose the interface you prefer, and making someone who already owns an interface (or doesn't need one with the gear they're driving) pay for one whether they need it or not. And the benefit is smaller, too, since in a board with sounds, having an interface built in also obviates the need for a mixer to combine internal and external sounds, another advantage you don't get when the board doesn't have internal sounds anyway.

I checked and indeed seems good. Only there are no pad and neither a lightweight 61 or 49 version.

Maybe Nord will be the one to do this - it would be great if a future Nord Stage had a built-in USB audio interface too (or would it have to be called the Nord Studio? Now there's an idea!)

It's a good idea, but make it a decent soundcard :)

For anyone making audio interfaces, especially those with more I/O than the basic 2in/2out channel count, the provision of bespoke driver software for the various operating systems is a major headache.
If Nord were to include USB audio connectivity, they might be better off using some other companies existing technology - such as RME - and benefit from proven hardware and software.
I suppose it could be called the "Stage Centre".
In Wales, no one will hear you scream.

I think we also should recognize that this is not Nord's area of expertise. They've never designed or written code for an audio interface. They don't even do audio over MIDI USB. Even licensing something from someone else can be a headache, because ultimately, you need to be able to support it. If it fails with some future OS update, the consumer will blame you, not the company you licensed it from, yet you don't have the expertise in house to do anything about it.

Agree in general and anyway since the introduction of Class Compliance for Audio/MIDI interfaces, the need for a driver is limited to high-performance/multi-channel audio interfaces, not really a requirement for a (master or not) keyboard with built in USB audio capability (maybe just a 2in+2out), in fact even a brand Yamaha is going that route lately (P125/121, MoXF, MODX;...).

On the other hand traditional master keyboard producers (e.g. Novation) are no longer incorporating USB audio in their products (I own a X-station which does but since then no new Novation model has it).

Having said that, I think it is very unlikely that Nord has any interest in entering that market, though technically they have the skills (imo).

am I missing something here? since when was it possible to "do audio over MIDI?" baud rate of 3.125kB/sec is sufficient to transfer playable audio?

Oh I didn't catch that, but I am sure anotherscott meant USB, not MIDI (whose speed is 31,25 Kbaud , 10x your number, but still not sufficient for audio anyway  ) :)
