Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
I've managed to make some room in my E6 piano sample storage in order to test the Grand Imperial 6.1 XL version. As expected, this XL version also lacks the Soft Release.
This is likely the case with other XL version of the flawed piano sounds like the Bright Grand XL 6.1 and Studio Grand 2 XL 6.2. Hopefully, someone will confirm.

Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
I think I'm going to head this route myself.. I just updated my bright-grand to the XL and dropped the Royal to the M... However, after thinking about Gambold's point.. I actively dislike the Royal Grand, so why not get rid of it (and others that I don't really use) and expand the quality of the others that I love.tsss27 wrote:I agree fully with Gambold this time! I always use the XL pianos, except where they are unavailable, like with some digital EP sounds etc. I don't need 10 pianos that sound pretty good, rather have 2 or 3 top class ones.

Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
Precisely. One great thing about Nords is that you can reconfigure the sample memory however you like as long as it's under the maximum total storage limit. So for me it makes the most sense to install the XL versions (where available) of any piano I intend to use.Arthr2ShdsJcksn wrote:I think I'm going to head this route myself.. Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
I'd suggest to create another topic to discuss the pros and cons of the various sample sizes and leave this one to those who may be interested in "functional" flaws.

Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
It seems that some people prefer discussing off-topic and not answering to questions raised by the topic of interest.
Nice song by the way.

>PS : I'm surprised that you only use the Large version of the Stockholm EP and not the XL version.<
Thanks for catching that! Just fixed it...I dumped the Sparkletop to make the room. I love the idea of it (Billy Preston on that famous rooftop) but never use it. BTW with this setup on my E6 I have exactly 3MB left, so I'm maxed out.

Re: Piano sounds with "functional" flaw
Since this thread has already veered way off topic (sorry OP!)… now seems like a good time to ask the community: what is the point of soft/slow release anyway?
Is this intended to compensate for a broken sustain pedal?
Perhaps I am too closed-minded… can someone clue me in?
(If I owned a real piano that exhibited this behavior, I would call a tech to fix it.)

The soft release adds a longer release especially in the lower end when you don't use the sustain pedal.PScooter63 wrote:Since this thread has already veered way off topic (sorry OP!)… now seems like a good time to ask the community: what is the point of soft/slow release anyway?

It's not something you have in a real piano.
It's like the equalizer feature that let you adjust the sound to your taste.

Glad for you that you have reached your quest for the ultimate XL piano sounds.Gambold wrote:>PS : I'm surprised that you only use the Large version of the Stockholm EP and not the XL version.<

Still not willing to check whether the Bright Grand XL 6.1 and Studio Grand 2 XL 6.2 support the Soft Release feature ?
