Nord. Their prices and the current changing scene in general

Postby ponkine » 24 May 2019, 13:29

Hi! :D

Inspired by this thread
general-nord-forum-f29/nord-half-moon-switch-query-t17543.html

Does anyone within Nord department think that a switch is really $250 worth?. Really?. for a switch is beyond ridiculous

You can buy a dedicated Rotary pedal (like Rotosim) for less price!

At this point Nord should realise they can't keep pricing their items and accesories as today.
Behringer is coming to the fore. And now Moog, the former most expensive synth brand, has reduced their prices. 10 years ago, they've released the new Matriarch for about $4000. They're asking $2000

In the last years, Casio (yes, Casio!) has improved a lot, and now the quality of their products are light years ahead from what they used to be.

Yamaha released their first attempt a Nord: Their CP 73 and CP 88

Dexibell are coming with 24 bit samples and unlimited polyphony, premium quality for everything, more features and less price than Nord

So, what do you think?.
Do you think Nord will stick in the past, of change for present and future times coming?

As long as Nord is the only option where you as user can decide which samples you want in your instrument, I think they can maintain their current prices. It's a strong selling point. I agree with you that $250 for the simple mechanism of a half moon switch is crazy.

Nord occupies a certain corner of the market: hands-on UI (dedicated controls wherever possible), limited yet strong features (you can't do everything, but what you can do ranks with the best), portability - and of course the Sample Library, as already mentioned. Your assessment that "they can't keep pricing their items and accesories as today" seems to be based on the observation that other manufacturers are upping their game and lowering their prices, but as long as the package is competitive - i.e. people keep buying it - why should Nord change their approach?

I purchased my Electro 3 for 850€ used and I consider it a steal. $250 for that switch seems a bit steep, for sure. :wtf:

You think $250 for a switch is steep? Take a look at the Nord Triple Pedal, which goes for a cool $499.

As Tracii put it, no one else does what they do. If you want it, you pay for it. And they keep coming up with cool products that I want to buy.

The Nord Stage 3 Compact is a wonderful board. My recent Nord Piano 4 is a joy for acoustic gigs. And that Nord Grand is starting to look pretty good as well. Even their older products are great: my Electro 4D still gets used occasionally, and I keep updating it with new samples. When it comes time to sell, you'll find willing buyers. At least, I have so far.
I think I have gear issues ....

Dexibell has this option too

And I'm pretty sure others will implement that. I don't think a major brands like Yamaha or Korg (they're still selling their libraries  ) but surely a newer one, or a lesser known one who want to be in the game

Wow. Those prices are pretty amazing.

The half-moon switch is 160€ street price here (US$ 180), including 19% VAT.

The triple pedal is $250, including 19% VAT.

Question for ponkine. Referencing your Electro whinge where you revealed that you were the only one in the conversation who hadn't actually played an Electro, did you buy a Nord yet? Or are these posts your tragically futile attempt to manipulate the market until the features and prices match your budget?

Well

The story is as follows (short version)

The guy offering it, contacted me. But since we're from different cities (120 km away), I decided to go and try one myself, before buying it. So I went to a store in Santiago last Monday. They didn't have the 6D. They had the 6HP. Didn't like the action at all. Frankly. But it sounded good

Anyway, the guy said me he sold his 6D ... and a couple of days later I saw an announcement from a online site on which he's selling it again ...

I don't know what to think!

Maybe he's reading what you write here, and got worried what could happen if he would have sold it to you :-)

On a more serious note: Couldn't you simply order a 6D from the store, or buy it online somewhere? Used Nords don't normally drop that much in price, so I'd imagine that the price of a used one would not be that much lower than a new one?

Just curious... could be different in your part of the world, of course.

As far as I know, there's no official dealer at the moment. Some stores have a few models. That's it (I saw one Stage 3, one Electro 6HP and one Piano 4. That's it)

The official Nord page shows a dealer that doesn't exist anymore
:(

And yes, the second hand one was at a quite lower price, compared with the factory store here
