Nord Stage EX still worth buying in 2024?

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Nord Stage EX still worth buying in 2024?

Post by andrin1 »

I am in need of a stage keyboard because we are having our first gigs with our band, and obviously I can't take my acoustic piano with me. Furthermore, I would like to have some other sounds such as a Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, Organs, etc. and Synthesizer to play with. My budget is a bit more than 1000 euros.
I found in my region a Nord Stage EX 76 for 1200 euros.
Do you think it is still worth buying one, or do you know any alternatives? In my mind is the Yamaha CK88, but which would be more expensive and doesn't seem to have a comparable Synth section. Another keyboard would be the Juno-DS, which is even more limited but less expensive.

1200 Euros for Nord Stage EX - My answer is NO NO - Save a little more and buy at least Nord Stage 2 EX 88 - much more upward compatible, good HA keybed and enough space for samples etc...

Hi andrin,

I‘m with the others, I think a Stage Ex is no longer at the top of the opportunities. Limited piano memory, limited piano features. If I look at your budget I feel you wouldn‘t do yourself a favour trying to get a nord, even if the red beasts seem to have a good optical impact on stage. I would indeed look at Rolands or Korgs. If you like Yamaha, then even those, only that I don‘t like their deep software menu structure. Roland Juno DS with 88 keys, or Korg kross 2 with 88 keys.

If you come from piano keys and still use piano sounds a lot then also a Kawai MP7 may be worth a look.

Keep us informed, good luck

Cheers from Germany

As stated by others, not worth it. If the price were around 600€ and that was my budget, I would go for it. But that's a big ask if th seller is looking for 1200€.

As others have said, it may be a good buy IF it's around 800-900€ (600 is maybe too optimistic) and IF it's in perfect working conditions. Remember that even if Nords are usually very reliable, we're talking about an instrument which is about 15 years old, and who knows how it's been used and maintained. Even if it works perfectly today, tomorrow it may have a catastrophic faiulure which is not even worth repairing, leaving you without a keyboard AND without the budget to buy a new one.

I agree that a Stage 2 (not even EX) is still a great instrument, gives you way more versatility and is still compatible with almost all the sounds from the various nord libraries.
If that's out of your budget, a used Nord Electro 5 is even more recent and in some ways superior, even if you lose the synth section.
Otherwise, for more choices it's probably better to look for other brands.
