Agree 100%. Been saving my pennies but not for speakers :)

I don't want to derail this topic, but the recent promotion of the C2D led me to speculate that Nord is trying to close them out and would be introducing an upgrade/replacement soon. That's all.

With regard to the speakers, I see this as more of a business decision than a musical one. Even on this forum, there have been multiple questions about how to properly amplify the instruments for home/personal studio use. There's even a current thread on it. From a business perspective, this is easy entry. Nord is doing none of the manufacturing. They researched business partners, had some input into the sound shaping and then shared their color spec to paint them. Low risk, and fills a need. It really doesn't matter how many they sell.

Nor are they the first company to do this. For years, Yamaha has offered custom speakers for their Tyros line. Korg has a similar offering for their PA series. Korg also currently have an agreement with Sequenz to sell their Sonic Bar as a keyboard monitor. It's represented as a stage monitor, but could easily fit in a studio or home.

I think this is a very clever product.

A lot of users don't have a nice studie with good monitors. Some players even have (or are) girlfriends who might appreciate the clean look. I think it might help Nord reach into a market that tends to be dominated by "furniture style" digital pianoes.

I'm kind of disappointed how small they are, though. Maybe they they will surprise me, but I already have a set of Genelec 8020s and they seem to be comparable in size and possibly price (if they are indeed going for 599USD). The Nord speakers has a lot higher watt output at 80W, while the Genelecs are bi-amped with 2x20W, but I bet the Genelecs sound better. Also very interesting whether they would actually be possible to use for on-stage monitoring. The Genelecs are not loud enough - I did try it succesfully with a set of 8030s, though.

Furthermore, you can already mount the Genelecs in a similar way. I have a K&M Omega 18810 stand (red of course) where I'm able to mount K&M extension arms for microphones. On these arms I can mount the Genelecs, since they have a regular microphone stand thread in the bottom. I currently only have one of the extension arms, but I plan to get another and put my 8020s on my Nord stand.

There is no way those monitors are going to get close to the bass reproduction on your HS7s.

>Nord is completing the experience for a subset of players -- home use.<

Try IPad integration with built-in wireless. Even as an add-on box. That would be a lot more useful for home use than studio monitors painted red.

For which segment of home users would adding another layer of interface to an already unparalleled interface be more relevant than a way to listen to the keyboard?

How would this be useful, and what would it do?

Please explain.

Good idea...you only have to paint your Genelec 8030 in red and put a Nord logo on them.

I've heard the Sound Manager, in all its clunky glory, celebrated in many ways - but this is a new one.

I'll cede the hosannas to you.

I prefer playing with stereo speakers on stage instead of large floor monitor(s). I like to be "in" the sound. Especially with stereo sounds.
I have used the Behringer (yes Behringer, but they're actually really ok!) Eurolive B205D for a while. They're cheap and they do the job! But I would be willing to go for a Nord system if it is better and the pricing is ok..

They have only half the effect, compared to the spec of the Behringer, so I guess they are not load enough as stage monitors. Also exept them to be priced the Nord way :silent:

I'm talking about the interface ON THE MACHINE.

Thanks for clarifying, though, that you were referring to the Sound Manager.
How is running the Sound Manager on an iPad with wireless integration more relevant or useful to a home user with a Nord Piano than having speakers attached?

I can see the appeal for the live musician, and I'd love to have the Sound Manager (and OS updates) on the iPad, but at home, that would offer pretty much zero benefit over using the PC that's already there to modify stuff — like twice a year, if that.

Heck, I don't connect to a computer more often than every few months, or so.
