Moin Tilman!
The memory used in these instruments is absolutely not comparable to "cheap" SSDs and Flash USB sticks. It's many times the price of conventional flash storage. It's special flash that has read speeds in line with RAM chips.
This is why Nords don't have to load samples when you switch a patch (or pre-load an entire bank) — any sound is instantly there when you switch programs, because it is read directly from flash.
Being able to directly access external SSDs would mean a completely new architecture, with an entirely new OS and system RAM into which samples would need to be loaded. This is *extremely* unlikely.
Being able to load sounds from an external drive into internal flash, OTOH, is a different matter — but I'd *much* rather they build a version of Nord Sound Manager for iOS and Android which would completely obsolete the need for attaching external thumb drives or SSDs just to transfer files to the Stage.

Re: Wish List for Nord Keyboards
Is there a 3rd party option for sound management?
I'm going to try to reorganize my Electro 6 to delete sounds I don't like and fit in new samples, but the last time I tried I had issues figuring out what I didn't like by patch and got overwhelmed trying to go over every single default patch.
I'll add suggestions for my ADD-led brain to the spreadsheet if I have any.
But if anyone has a suggested workflow I'm game.

Well if you don't want to check all patches you don't like (and I wonder how can you know you don't like a program if you don't try it?) you may do the reverse, i.e. delete all from your NE6D and then load only the programs&samples you want (FYI the Factory backup file can be renamed to .zip and unzipped so that you can load individual programs/Samples out of it).thermionic wrote:Is there a 3rd party option for sound management?

Hrm, so what I meant by that was that I could go per-patch and identify which I didn't like, but if I delete the samples from one patch, it might mess up another layered patch that I couldn't see the correlations to. Had I known these would've come already pre-filled with samples and leading to space management (which is not my favorite set of problems) I would've saved for a Stage :pmaxpiano wrote:Well if you don't want to check all patches you don't like (and I wonder how can you know you don't like a program if you don't try it?) you may do the reverse, i.e. delete all from your NE6D and then load only the programs&samples you want (FYI the Factory backup file can be renamed to .zip and unzipped so that you can load individual programs/Samples out of it).

Re: Wish List for Nord Keyboards
If I‘ve read the specs of the NE6 and the Stage 3 correctly on nord‘s website the NE has 512 MB whereas the Stage only has 480 MB in that section. So where do you see problem resp. solution?thermionic wrote:… Had I known these would've come already pre-filled with samples and leading to space management (which is not my favorite set of problems) I would've saved for a Stage :p
Okay, the piano section may make the difference.
As far as your question is concerned I‘d recommend to use the Sound Manager because it shows you sample by sample which programs it is linked to. You can avoid deleting one which you actually love in a certain program.
Cheers from Germany
Edit: Just in case you haven‘t got to know that Sound Manager is a free nord software:

Re: Wish List for Nord Keyboards
Hi.
I'm a new member and brand new Nord Stage 3 owner. I also own an Acoustic Piano and Kawai MP11SE.
The Nord was a step in a different direction for me and it's a huge learning curve. My wish list would include: 1) at least 1 USB C input, preferably 2 one for moving data around and one for the ability to record directly from the keyboard, 2) 1 GB or 2.5 GB RJ 45 plug, 3) Dante would be nice but optional 4) Balanced outputs, Studios and stages are full of noise from WiFI, Bluetooth, cell phones, wireless, etc one of the output pairs being balanced would be nice 5) way more memory, lets face it the best piano samples are huge, and Nords pianos and other samples aren't keeping up, they sound good but when compared directly they are showing their age 6) a more powerful way of organizing the unit from unified software app 7) updated samples 8) WIFI connectivity for when wired isn't an option
