Nord Half Moon Switch Query

Postby Yukimajo » 13 Apr 2019, 11:53

First off sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I would like to know if anyone can tell me if the Half Moon Switch is really worthwhile please. I am an organ player (Vox & Farfisa mainly on an Electro 6D) and am about to dive into the world of the B3 and wondered if this switch really is worth the £105 price tag.

Thanks

(E5d) I mostly find the sustain pedal the most convenient - allows me to keep both hands on the keys (there is a setting to allow this behaviour of the sustain pedal). I sometimes use the button, which is a similar action to using the half moon. I never felt the need to add a half moon. I guess if you'd always played with a real B3 and half moon, you might want to reproduce the experience, but otherwise, dive in with what you've got.

I don't own one and I don't really care of buying it TBH, I change the rotary speed with a pedal. As CountFosco said it's better to have both hands on the keyboard. However I believe the halfmoon is easier to reach than the button.

Thats a lot of money for a simple switch but if you lived in the US you would have to pay about $100 more!

Few euros for the box, max 10 for the switch and few more for a plug and wire, little soldering and it's done. I'd say max 20€, no more. £105 is definitely overpriced.

I use a cheap pedal for that, and it works great.

What an utterly insightful and sophisticated analysis of the costs involved in bringing a product to market.

Jeltz analysis is maybe OK for a DYI, not for a commercial product, I agree with you (I made one myself for my GSI DMC122 actually), but then we should also ask ourselves why Crumar can sell its Half Moon at 69€/79$ (same function, basically the same components, different wiring)?

@yukimajo: I agree with the people who suggested to go for a pedal switch, if you never used a real Hammond and/or Halfmoon and you are not planning to do that in the near future.

I used to play a console Organ which had the Leslie kick switch on the volume pedal. Simply slide your foot to the left to toggle on/off and slide left to sustain for piano. I don't know why no one has release similar free standing pedal like this. Its great for combo organ players.

There is; Crumar makes it

Long throw expression pedal with side switches (click on image to go to the product page)
