This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

To elaborate on this a little bit, literally speaking it is polyphony, albeit just 2 notes, but "not of the same synth", because in paraphonic mode the Sub37 becomes single OSC so you cannot create the same sounds you can when in mono mode (same happens with the DSI Pro.2, while other paraphonic synths, the old Poly800, don't have this limitation because they always work in paraphonia, without changing their OSC configuration or any part of the sound generation chain).

@stiiiiiiive: I agree that paraphony can infuse some creativity, when you play a paraphonic you have to deal with it the fact that every note retriggers the envelopes and that creates some interesting "patterns" (but you could get the same on a good polyphonic synth, provided it has options for envelopes triggering that include such a feature)

Well, the Poly800 strictly speaking cannot "create the same sounds" as when played monophonically, either, since paraphonic synths are unable to individually articulate each played note: As you mention, every note played will either retrigger all other previously-held notes, as well, OR they will simply be played within the envelope of the previously-held notes, depending upon which mode is implemented or set.

The Korg Poly 800 has a dedicated oscillator for each of its eight voices (or two each for four voices), but it only has one filter. This is why it is paraphonic — all voices played are routed through the same filter.

Clarification of elaboration of explanation of tangential point.

Yeah, anyway, for me, I want to get "something worth" for my money, then, more notes will make it. I know it could be surprising but this is the way I am. I was asking few years ago advices on this forum, between a NL2 and any Moog, Phatty I think or whatever. Some replied, Moog Mono (Kind of), Nord, or DSI Poly, then...I liked this point and I'm keeping it in my decidion process...

Not necessarily. Paraphony can also be implemented so that envelopes are retriggered after the last key is released, as in the MG1.

Right. I believe the Sub37 allows you to switch it either way, i.e. playing a second note while holding the first allows you to either have the second note "join" the first envelopes still in progress, or the second note can retrigger the envelopes. And I don't mind the "loss" of the second oscillator on the first note when playing a second note, because if I'm playing something that is mixing single and dual note bits, most likely, when I'm playing single note lines, I'm using the second oscillator to beef up the sound of the first, and if that second oscillator momentarily breaks away to play a different pitch, the presence of the second note kind of compensates for less thickness on the first.

It is not just about thickness, you cannot mix 2 different waveforms or 2 detuned waveforms, sync or cross modulate the 2 OSCs, etc.. the overall timbral possibilities are affected (limited)

My solution: a nord Stage and Memorymoog. (And six monophonic moogs...)
The Nord giveth; the Nord taketh away…

The Drawbars — off jazz organ trio

Not only that, but also, a lot of maintenance for the Memorymoog, I assume, right?
