"and is beta testing Apple's upcoming Mac OS release"

It's a BETA - don't hold your breath until Apple releases the final version. Good grief. Go play with the kids, take a walk on the beach. :-)

Clavia owes us nothing until this is released in it's final form.

And if you are in the software biz - using a beta in a production environment is not best practice.

With all respect, when you sign up to a beta OS, you should know that there might be issues with applications and hardware. I am quite sure that are mentioned several times before you do the installation.

And regarding Nord or any other software developer, Apple might change things without warnings in their next beta release, so the program that will work now, might be rewritten again for the next beta release.
It is not only 32 vs 64 bit that might be a challenge, other routines might be different too.
I doubt Nords program manager are the only program that doesn’t work anymore.

I was a beta-nerd years ago, but quit because lot of my applications stop working, so if I want to do it again, it will always be on a secondary computer or phone / tablet.

I'm deeply grateful to people who do beta testing from the end-users point of view. I feel Clavia now needs to concentrate on this evidently upcoming 64-bit change. Unil then I even could live without any new sounds.

I have to laugh at all the comments suggesting I wasn't aware of what I was getting myself into, as if I was completely caught by surprise when the only two 32-bit apps left on my Mac stopped working. I've been using those 32-bit apps for years since purchasing my Nord Electro 4, and I continued to use them even after MacOS started popping up a warning about "Hey, this app isn't optimized for this system. It'll still run but the developer needs to update it." The only difference now is that the warning message is more final and the OS is much less forgiving. Apple gave Clavia and other developers years and years of lead time. Clavia isn't the only developer who's been slow to update their software. Many developers abandoned their apps rather than update them, like the Behringer one I mentioned earlier. Maybe Clavia won't do that.

I came into this forum looking to see if anyone else was in the same boat as me, and I saw an opportunity to jump into this thread and confirm the suspicions of the original poster who said the next version of MacOS probably doesn't support Sound Man(ager). Correct.

I'll let you guys get back to your Clavia lovefest.

A few thoughts:

1. Thanks for the info about the current Sound Manager not working on the Catalina beta.
2. Yes, it seems like Clavia is cutting it close with the Catalina release expected mid-September.
3. Yes, it would be nice to hear that they are working on a 64-bit version that will run on Catalina.
4. Maintaining 64-bit and 32-bit versions of a program does not happen for free, so it makes sense to wait until the last minute to switch to 64-bit so advancements can still be provided to customers on 32-bit Macs.
5. What were you hoping that the result of your posts would be? A virtual mob to march on Stockholm demanding answers? Spreading some FUD to discourage new buyers in retaliation for not updating Sound Manager according to a schedule that’s acceptable to you?

Most of us around here understand that there are going to be trade offs with any piece of equipment. We get so much value out of our Nords that the occasional issue doesn’t really register as a point of contention for us, especially if there are workarounds available.

It sounds like this is a hot button issue for you, which is fine, but it’s probably not realistic to expect a much different response when you come to an enthusiasts’ site in which you have never materially participated, and your opening contribution is to start complaining that the manufacturer doesn’t run its business the way you think it should.

It’s not a lovefest, just different opinions about what could be expected. Clavia may have a policy to release software in 64bit only when the existing one is no longer working in current OS environments. It’s debatable whether this is good or not, but it may be their way. That’s why one should wait until the 64Bit only MAC OS has been released - if there is no 64Bit version of Clavia’s MAC software versions available or at least announced by then I would totally agree with you.

I think this year is the best year for Clavia to take their whole app experience to a new level. ;)

1st - macOS won't support its old, not even Retina-capable, 32bit application
2nd - iPadOS won't limit external USB devices

Let's be honest...
* The Mac/Windows applications were made in times when Nords were like "Oh look, there's a red keyboard on stage"...
* Macs didn't have Retina screens
* The iPad was a blown-up iPhone

I have hope that Clavia sees that and will once again raise the bar when they talk about "replacable sounds" and "you won't have to buy a new instrument to get new sounds"

Why an iPad/iPhone app?
I, and probably thousands of other Nord players, always have their iPad (and of course, their iPhone) with them.
Many will also have their MacBook/Laptop with them, but you get the idea :)

I totally agree with what you say  And I think that you're right, iPadOS might just be the change that would allow them to build NSM mobile.
iOS 13 will also lose these limitations right?

The dream is just to quickly organize a setlist before the gig by connecting the phone to the keyboard.

Something that I really hope for in a new NSM would be the possibility not only so switch programs by drag&drop, but rather to dynamically change the order (the same way we Edit basically any list on any device!)

Exactly, iOS 13 in general - iPadOS is just what they call it because it has features like multitasking etc. :)

Yeah, thumbs up for drag and drop (rather than exchanging programs)

I think this is such a great opportunity for Clavia...
No NSM "mobile" needed, just NSM that's running on all Apple devices (and Windows, too, of course)

Nord have just released 7.46 Sound Manager. Not 64 bit yet, but they've said it will be...

"Mac users may currently see a warning message about 64-bit compatibility when installing/running this application. A 64-bit version will be available on this download page before Apple ends their support for 32-bit applications"
