Newbie Question - Samples

Postby quarkrad » 19 Feb 2023, 19:40

A friend has just purchased a nord electro 6d and ask me about samples and the need for a laptop. I have seen for example, piano sounds on the nord website you can download and install into the nord 6d. A couple of questions if I may:

1. Are these sounds not on the keyboard already? These does not seem many samples/sounds on the site to download
2. Are there other sites where people have created a sound that you can download? (I'm assuming if you download these you would invalidate the warrantee, which is fair enough)

Thank you.

The Nord Electro 6 is a more or less open system. Yes, there are factory sounds/programs on the instrument. No, they don't need to remain there. Yes, you can download any piano sample from the Nord website to the piano engine memory, and yes, you can download any v.3 synth sample from any source (Nord website, own creation through Nord Sample Editor, norduserforum.com/nordusersounds.com or other third party) - using the Nord Sounds Manager. No, downloading other samples will not void your warranty. Yes, there is a restore pack on the Nord website to restart playing around with everything from scratch.

In short: You don't need a laptop to play an Electro 6, but fro time to time, it is of some use.

Hi and welcome. Nord's aproach to patches is a little different than other keyboards, of course the keyboard comes full of patches (the term "programs" is used to describe a patch) but nord's website doesn't offer many of them. Their library is more like a grocery where you get the ingredients too cook your own meal rather than order a dish, if you get what I mean. You download samples and create your own programs to taste, so with a single sample you can create lots of different programs. They also offer you the sample editor in order to create your own samples just by recording any sound you wish. In case you are not such experienced in programming your own sounds there are tons of custom samples and programs for any nord model in this forum, created by members of the comunity and offered for free as long as you register.
A laptop (or desktop) is essential only if you want to remove samples and load others, or if you want to use the sample editor.
