It's just been released. It's basically a softer and mellower Mellow Upright, but it looks like this time Nord chose to record whatever piano they used with the una corda pedal engaged. It's certainly a niche piano, but a welcome addition nonetheless: I personally like it quite a lot. I'm glad Nord's still committed to the Piano Library!

Lol, I guess then *this* new one is not for me: Even the Mellow Upright feels way to mellow for me, it sounds to me like a thick blanket covering the piano... Although the demos always sound quite nice, it's almost unplayable to me, I'm really missing the natural attack of the notes.

Great sample for sure. However, I find it funny that Yamaha released the same sample with the CP 1.5 update just recently. I am kinda sad that Nord stopped developing/improving their samples and products.

Ähm .. not sure what you mean … why do you think they stopped developing their own samples although they just released the new felt piano?? Do you think that they licensed it from Yamaha?

I wondered when Nord would get on the felt piano/cinematic train - every big sample library company seems to have a plethora of felt pianos right now.

This is a lovely sounding sample with a real intimacy and a surprising sparkle at the top end. I'm not sure it will work in a loud band, but for accompanying a singer this would be very nice indeed.

Rather than another addition to the Piano Library I would like to see updates to the current instruments-

Thank you

They are using the same photo as the one they used for the Mellow. Clue?

Can we hope now for a new Rhodes, too? Bigger and more detailed finally? The newest Rhodes sample is about six years old now... :(

Its possible to be the same mellow instrument with different micing or eq etc or difference distance of recording the mics etc..

Anyway its been 30 months from the last new sample which was the white grand.. now after this felt sample i believe the next thats coming propably around end of march max till june is new instrument which is going to be electro 7 or stage 3 ex or grand 2.. and at summer will have a new sample also…

All of these might delay also because they already delayed a lot because of covid and now war coming…. I wish this russia ukraine war stop soon because if this gets bigger everything will stop again… and the most important is that innocent people dieing :(

Here is text on Nords website about the Felt Piano:
"...a medium sized upright piano fitted with felt between the hammers and strings to provide a soft, warm and delicate piano sound."

They didn't disclose the make and model of the upright piano, so It may be one of the medium size uprights they've sampled in the past. They physically inserted felt to change the sound; they 'prepared' the piano in addition to whatever microphone placement or EQ they used.

I think it sounds very nice and could be effectively used for soft romantic pieces, film soundtracks, acoustic accompaniment for vocals, small ensemble works and so on.
