New upright piano to be released. "Felt upright"

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Here is text on Nords website about the Felt Piano:
"...a medium sized upright piano fitted with felt between the hammers and strings to provide a soft, warm and delicate piano sound."

They didn't disclose the make and model of the upright piano, so It may be one of the medium size uprights they've sampled in the past. They physically inserted felt to change the sound; they 'prepared' the piano in addition to whatever microphone placement or EQ they used.

I think it sounds very nice and could be effectively used for soft romantic pieces, film soundtracks, acoustic accompaniment for vocals, small ensemble works and so on.

My Boston upright has a latching center pedal that drops a felt curtain between the hammers and strings… so this feels right at home to me!

It's surely a "character" piano, but I think that's what we'll see from Clavia from now on: there are already so many "standard" pianos that what difference would an additional one make?

Among grand pianos the Bright, Italian, Silver and Royal are all very good all-around choices, bright and suitable for band mixes. Many people (me included) still love even the ancient Studio and Concert samples, and the Lady D is always a crowd pleaser.
The non-standard samples like the Velvet or White or the historical pianos add a different flavour, for solo work or small acoustic ensembles where subtle nuances can be heard.

The upright collection has always been more peculiar: most people will always prefer to use a grand for standard piano work, and choose an upright only for "character". As such, in the upright collection there are fewer "regular" pianos (Black, Queen, Grand, Amber, which by the way are absolutely stunning) and more unconventional samples. And I think that's the real strength of the Upright library: who needs another "good" upright when we already have the Black?
Give me a felt piano or prepared piano any day!

You're absolutely right about upright pianos: they have to be particular, peculiar, unique in order to be useful. But the grand pianos collection also features several, smallish samples: Nord should resample or release (since they might already have fully mapped them back in the day) XL versions of all-time favourites like the Grand Lady D or the Studio Grand (which is based on a Yamaha C7). Since there's (almost) nothing new to offer, Nord should work on improving what they already have, just like they did with the Rhodes collection (with excellent results).

Agreed. There aren’t many other classic brands out there now except for maybe the Bechstein.

I’d like to see a revisit of the Imperial and Italian with the new technology.

I agree that updated versions of their older pianos, like they did with the EPs, would be extremely welcome.
The Concert, Studio and Lady D are still among everybody's favourites, an XL version would be awesome. But of course we don't know if that would be technically possible. It would require that they still have the original recordings, and that these are at the same level of quality as the latest pianos.
If they had to re-record everything it would simply be another sample, it would be impossible to make them sound exactly the same.
