I meant the Grand Piano intro on "San Michele", in terms of realism and expressivity I can't hear it sounding "old" from a quality perspective, but yes maybe I was a bit too nostalgic (that video made me think, anyway)daniel70 wrote:Yes, the old Mark V sample sounds fantastic here, but above all it is played fantastically by Alan Pasqua. By the same reasoning, you could also say that Korg didn't need to develop its piano samples any further because the Korg Stagepiano sounds great on Kenny Kirkland's epochal piano solo on Sting‘s "Bring on the Night" life record from 1986!maxpiano wrote:I am asking myself why do we need 1 new piano per year at all or bigger/larger samples, this evening, while I was listening to this (played on a Nord Stage Classic, 12 years ago ...)

they really need to (or have someone in the USA) sample all the dozens of brands of grands we use to have - Baldwin, Kimball, Chickering, Knabe, Wurlitzer etc. there are so many piano brands besides Steinway and Yamaha.

Re: New Piano sound: Soft Grand
I just downloaded this. It's nice and expressive, but not worth using 200MB of your precious Piano memory. You can get the same kind of sound with Studio Grand 2 or Royal Grand 3D with the "Soft" EQ setting on and a little tweaking in the AMP/EQ section.

Re: New Piano sound: Soft Grand
I belive it's the bright grand. Maybe the most sicere piano tone in the library indeed. I would like to have a normal hammers (not bright) version of the same sampling tech used in terms of piano model, mics and ambience.ziozeus wrote:What sample was that?
Regarding the soft grand release... For me it's useless.

Re: New Piano sound: Soft Grand
Side thought when test driving a new sample for the Nord. With memory prices as they are (2TB Micro SDs so affordable, etc…) I’m surprised the Flagship Nord Stage 4s don’t have more available sample memory.

Re: New Piano sound: Soft Grand
That’s been discussed numerous times here. Nords don’t use memory technologies similar to SSDs, SD cards or computer RAM, the flash memory used is not comparable to these in price or performance. Nevertheless I agree that more memory is always desirable, but will be more expensive than one would expectEnjoyRC wrote:Side thought when test driving a new sample for the Nord. Re: New Piano sound: Soft Grand
I got the email yesterday and like Schorsch above - my first thought was - I wonder what Gambold thinks? My second thought was - no way am I going to tie up memory for a “soft” grand I can EQ from any other grand sample. Still love White - and am ACHING for an updated Lady D or other fantastic pianos….not that I’m unappreciative of Nord for getting a new one out there - but “soft” was not even on my radar….next!
