I would spring for the Prophet 6…
I have a DSI PolyEvolver Keyboard (PEK) and while its cool (4 oscs per voice with digital waveforms on oscs 3 and 4) I do miss that VCO sound… also the PEK filter character (which is I gather is the same as the Prophet 8) is very modern which makes it good for all manner of rhythmic stuff but less so for those wide warm pads without a heck of a lot of programming… For instance I have some nice JX10 pads in my PEK (I have a rack (PER) too for 8 voices) but it took a lot in way of modulations to get something which is meat and potatoes on a 70s/80s poly. I had a feeling it was a similar story with the Prophet 8 though its definitely possible to get really warm sounds just takes some effort!
So without a doubt… go for the Prophet 6 although the Prophet 8 and PolyEvolver stuff are also great synths!
Btw… one of the best solo sounds I have is the PEK/PER combo in unison for a stack of 8 voices!

Re: New DSI Prophet 6
When you first play with the P08 you may decide there are a lot of 'missing' features - for example, only Low Pass Filter, no High Pass (or BPF).
However, keep at it and you will discover a whole wealth of stuff that the Prophet 5 certainly could never do, and you will soon love it i'm sure
You'll read some bad press about the P08 Editor software, but take my advice, suck it up and buy it. It's a lot easier for managing patches than the SYSEX tools DSI suggest, also useful for viewing envelope shapes etc. and much more efficient for programming parameter changes in the step sequencer.

And now for something completely different...

Re: New DSI Prophet 6
Oh my god. Right at my midlife crisis, this happens. Serious Prophet GAS. A long time ago I went away to college with a new Prophet 600, and ultimately traded it in on a Prophet 5 3.3. Thank you Dave Smith!
I’ve completely forgotten about the Lead A1.
That says a lot given that I’m a Nord fanatic and I’ve always supported and defended the brand here. I’m buying the Electro 5D 61, but the P6 may just take the place of my L4 on my compact gig-rig.

Re: New DSI Prophet 6
Ok, this is the General Nord forum so…
Probably, it’s not fair to compare the P6 to NLA1, the NLA1 is a more capable instrument at a much better price.
The P6 looks really cool. Especially to nostalgic romantics like me.
I don’t like the permanent factory patches. Call me a patch snob. Deal-breaker?
Ultimately, assuming that any modern high-end synth sounds fantastic and has an adequate keybed, it boils down to the fit and finish and feel of a well-designed interface. If the buttons and knobs on the P6 are flimsy and cheap feeling like many other brands then I would get the NLA1 because a solid interface is a given with Nord.
Ok, I still want a NLA1.

I have my eye on an A1. I haven't touched the P6, but I have to tell myself that it's deliberately designed to make nostalgic folk of a certain age (like me) salivate - it even has the sequential circuits logo now! It's like re-launching the Delorean car. If i get a grip and try to be objective, the limited polyphony of a real analog is a limiting factor. Also, I doubt many people who revere true analog synths could honestly tell one from a well programmed VA patch if they had a blindfold on Especially in a mix, or at a gig. The number of different oscillator options on the A1 is the clincher.
Which one would I expect to sound most like a fat, warm, Prophet 5? the P6 of course, but which one has more potential to create a variety of unique and beautiful sounds...
