Never satisfied!

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Never satisfied!

Post by eksund »

Well,well,well.....

I sold my Electro 6D, didn´t like the keybed, needed 88 keys,
loved the piano sound, liked the organ section.

Have a Piano 5 on "try out", love the keybed, got my 88 keys,
still love the piano sound, no organ section (miss that one).

What about Stage 4, good keybed (?), 88 keys (ok), piano sound (equaly good),
organ section (yes!), synth section (don´t bother), price (high).

As you see. I want an organ section to have fun with.
Should be possible to use Crumar Mojo Desktop or Ferrofish B4000+ or Viscount Legend Expander
or even an Yamaha YC. But then the price is closing in on a Stage 4.

And what about Nord Monitor V2, anybody with an honest opinion?

I think that many struggle with the same questions.
- 88 keys for playing organ: not ideal.
- adding a good organ sound to an 88 piano: get a 61 "specialist", e.g. Electro, Viscount Legend, something from Yamaha, OR an organ expander (HX3, Viscount) with a MIDI keyboard
- here is my personal experience with the Nord monitors (I really like them):

Many of us play with two keyboards: a weighted one below for piano-type parts, and an unweighted one above for organ, synth, etc. It also gives you a lot of real estate for different parts, so fewer splits are needed. A NS4C with a weighted midi controller is ideal.

I use a NP5 76 in the controller role, which also gets played solo for acoustic gigs.

I would also suggest open-back headphones vs. any studio monitors (Nord or otherwise). It's much more immersive and detailed, unless you like the sound of room reverb.

This how my stuggle turned out.

I bought my Piano 5. Very pleased with it.
However my stand struck my thigh on and off and it was very annoying.
Since I am not planning on moving the piano around, I ordered a Nord stand. I was suprised how sturdy and stable it is.
Next issue was that when playing the piano I have my "studio" monitors from my side, so I opened the wallet one more time and ordered Nord Monitor.
The sound from these is very impressive.

The setup is now almost perfect.
I could connect the piano to my old Yamaha AG06 USB soundcard mixer via a pair of simple Y connectors.
Works fine both to and from the computer. So when I am at the piano, I use the Nord speakers as monitors.

So in one sentence - I am now satisfied. At least with the Nord Piano setup.

I guess you like playing around with the drawbars, but there are users here on the forum that have sampled very good B3 organ sounds for Nord Piano - For slow organ on hammer keys, they can work :-)

Have you investigated tube preamps for your piano signal chain? Another way to spend money :)

Now you need a NS4C on top to complete your rig!
