NE5 vs Stage 2

Post by RichW »

I am deciding which Nord to buy and have narrowed it to the subject boards. I mostly play duo and trio gigs where I'm doing left hand bass, so splits are a must. 99% of what I need is classic pianos/organs/synths in the right hand and various basses in the left. I want to take advantage of the effects for the right hand, but other than a touch of reverb would want the left hand bass to be dry.

Can the NE5 do this?

Also, am I correct that if I want to layer 2 sounds in the right and still maintain the bass in the left, this points to the Stage 2 and eliminates the Electro?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi RichW,

You're right in your last question/answer.

Reverb is global on both boards. That means 1 reverb applies to all sounds. Even on the stage 2.

Other effects on the Electro can be assigned to one part at a time, not both, except for the eq.

You'd get a nice synth, two of them indeed, with the Stage, that could be usefull to shape your left hand bass sounds or right hand lead.
On the other hand the NE5 has great bass samples, some of them you can find here : http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libr ... y-2-0/bass

Thanks Arfntz,
Very helpful. The Stage looks to be a deeper dive to learn, but I guess I knew which way to go. Just wanted to confirm I had it right. I placed an order for a Stage 2 EX and will surely be back with questions and comments!
Thanks again,
Rich

Hi Rich,

Slight correction there to Frantz' note: yes, reverb is global on the NS2, sort of. It does apply to all sounds which are routed to the main 1/2 audio outputs. There are two more audio outputs, however, to which things can be routed. Specifically, your additional choices are 3/4 as a stereo pair, or 3 or 4. Thus, you can play some voices with reverb and others without according to your needs.

One other thing, in case it isn't clear, yes, the NE5 does have access to some nice bass samples, but it's not like these things are unique to the NE5 -- the NS2/NS2EX has the same access to the same samples, and you can do quite a lot more with them on the Stage platform than on the Electro platform.

I am your tech support rep, so you can feel free to contact me via my regular work contacts after you receive your new NS2EX.

Thanks to both of you for the quick responses. I have been a Yamaha guy for many years - got a DX7 when they first came out in the 80s, and more recently an S90 then S70 XS. Great sounds, but I'm tired of digging into cryptic menus to make what should be simple sound edits, not to mention lugging 45 - 60 lbs around. So looking forward to getting to know my new Nord!
