It may depend on other variables. If analogika plays, there are 3 or 4 persons on stage. When I play in the big band, there are about 20. Who all may or may not pass and unplug a cable by chance.

I play in like eight different ensembles, but even when I was playing in the 11-piece funk outfit: what's on for soundcheck stays on until curfew.

We had a great one once, where they'd cut power between sound check and gig and didn't tell us. That band always used to play a half-step down. Intro, count-in, and FIRST CHORD — the piano is a half-step too high. Rebooting had reset the transpose function on his Roland. (Wasn't me, thankfully).

This is my approach as well. The reasoning is simple: one less step to take when it's showtime.

Thanks for links to those previous threads. I did a quick search and didn't come up with those before posting my question, which is related but with a different use case.

The second thread you linked to ended with what i just quoted above and it does get to the crux of both questions, but was never discussed further. I presume Nord doesn't have a stance on this either, or it would have been quoted by someone.

The first thread you linked has someone stating that the electronics can certainly handle many thousands of hours of operation and that turning the keyboard off isn't necessary. But this isn't the same as whether it's better to do so, or not. He also states the most likely parts to fail are the physical ones, and one of those would be the actual on/off switch. I think that is a factor in my concern about switching off a working keyboard hours before a gig... why risk that it won't turn on again? On the other hand, it's never not turned on, and no one on this forum has come forward yet saying they've had problems with their Nord On/Off switch.

And like you said, if there were something or someone indicating it's better to do one of the other, a lot of us would do that. Which is why this forum is so great... to find out what everyone is doing.

My question is...why turn it off between sound check and performance? What benefit is expected for doing that?

The Nord is not going to overheat, there are no batteries that drain, and yeah - there is always the faint chance that on a reboot something goes wrong. It's slim, but who wants that, half a minute before you are expected to start playing?

I leave mine on - and I also throw a cover over it to prevent knobs getting turned or buttons pushed by other players/personnel as they stumble around setting up and doing last minute stage stuff. Nothing like coming back to your Nord from the bar after that warm-up beer, to find your drawbars all screwed up or your equalizer buttons spun in strange places...or just something switched off that you don't notice until you are half-way through a song...

Well, for me it’s just some kind of habit to turn things off when not in use, may have learned it when I was a little child and do it more or less automatically. Reading through all the comments here makes me think to change my habit though - at least for my instruments on gigs ….

Ah, just realised that i have a habit of always re-selecting the first preset when i get back on stage. (only on machines that do presets, obviously.)

I dont know what nord or anyone recommend about that.. the wise thing is to turn it off if you are not going to play for very long.. because in case of power cut or volt drop and come back with more volt then can damage your keyboards power supply… only if you have a ups with good battery on stage for your keyboard.. then you can keep it on without worries

Does anybody else have an issue that if you accidentally step on the sustain pedal (triple pedal in my case) during boot-up of the Nord that the sustain won't work until after re-booting the Nord again? This happens on my Piano 4.

This is a good point. But the electrical grid is stable enough here that I have never worried about that.

I assume you are using sustain pedal "auto" mode. That means the instrument will test for the rested position polarity during boot up. If you press the pedal at this time, the machine will get confused.
