IS THERE A RELEASE FUNCTION ON NORD KEYBOARDS

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

IS THERE A RELEASE FUNCTION ON NORD KEYBOARDS

Post by Richy »

Hi Guys,
I'm totally new to Nord keyboards and don't own one as yet - but I'm looking seriously at purchasing one in the very near future. Which brings me on to the reason for my question.....
I currently play a Roland Fantom keyboard to use for my main piano sounds, and a Gem Equinox for organ/pad/synth/orchestral sounds. I am planning to sell the Equinox and invest in something more practical, as the battery backed RAM is a bit of a pain sometimes; losing edits etc.
Now, I have a particular chordal style of playing which necessitates quite a lot of release in some cases (I like to edit release realtime on the fly), will a Nord allow me to do this? I have it on the Roland and the Gem; but if it wasn't available on the Nords I would have to think hard about whether I would be suited to one.
Please help folks, I would be very grateful. I love the Nord organ and electric piano sounds and would be gutted if this release problem prevented me from owning one!
kind regards,
Richy

Speaking for the Electro 5:

Piano section has "long release" option, which is really just a very slightly longer tail on the sample without sustaining- with sustain pedal the samples ring quite a while.
Organ- no way of lengthening the release except sustain pedal.
Sample synth- Yes, release time function, adjustable on the fly via a front panel knob, up to 39s of release.

You can put a long reverb on all of the engines.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the info, that's very useful to know. Sounds like the sustain pedal is an important addition to have. I'm hoping to try a Nord out soon, someone I know has got one; but I'm not sure which model he has.
Cheers anyway!

Please note that this will NOT allow you to sustain the sound between different patches. If you switch programs, it will immediately kill the previous sound.

The only way around this is to buy a Nord stage and use the two slots of a program - slot A and B have one organ, one piano and one synth each.

You can switch between slots A & B without the sound cutting out.
