I only need one new piano sample

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Well, all I can say is I know a lot of keyboardists and most use clav at least often enough that an update would be exciting for them (well, for those who had a Nord, anyway.)
But it depends on the styles you prefer to play, I suppose...much like those really dark felted pianos. Of those, I think the newest (Soft Grand) was by far the best, but I hope it is also the last one and they will focus on other things now...

I can't speak to that, since like most keyboardists on the planet, I have little to no use for it. BUT - it would seem to me that if I was an enthusiast, I would like to see by now some updates from our good buddies at Nord. Created with the new sampling technology that has made their acoustic piano samples almost double in size over the years.

How about individual samples for the four main Clav settings? How about the Hohner E7, which apparently was an interesting and often-used follow-up model to the D6?
With all respect:

If you obviously know nothing about these machines, and you profess to have no idea at all how they might be used or even useful at all: why are you making suggestions about how Clavia should approach them?

For the record, the things that made the E7 “desirable” over the D6 are a ruggedised case, less susceptibility to hum and noise, and — that’s it.

I've not played an E7 but had read in the past its tone is actually thinner than the D6. Therefore it would probably not be highly desireable as a sample. Maybe the older clavinet C. There's a sampled version for Kontakt and Korg Kronos available from PurgatoryCreekSoundware and it does sound different than the D6.

Or maybe the modern one from Vintage Vibe.

I’ve owned two D6 and an E7. There really isn’t much of a difference at all. The E7 sounds a little cleaner — maybe.

The C has different pickup/filter settings and does sound different

>why are you making suggestions about how Clavia should approach them?<

Making suggestions that Clavia should update their freaking 14-year old samples is something EVERYONE should be doing, loudly and with increasing annoyance that it isn't happening. Contrary to what some "love it or leave it" types may argue, there IS a promise to their customers that keyboards will be regularly updated. That they have blown off the Hohner crowd after releasing one sample is neither deniable nor defensible.

I'd say that was more than evident already, and I can smell your gas over the Atlantic. But your church analogy is pure gold.
:thanks:

Besides, I initially posted to see if there were others who would appreciate an updated Clav sample. I appreciate the open and direct communication, even if you might sometimes overshoot.

A Hohner D6 Clavinet is a Hohner D6 Clavinet is a Hohner D6 Clavinet, and it's a pretty simple sound overall. It's not like a grand or upright piano, where there were so many different brands and varieties of tonality. Likewise with Rhodes electric pianos that changed over the years with different models. The Hohner D6 Clavinet sound is a signature sound, more influenced by the way it is played and the effects used with it.

Is the sample old? Yep. Could there be improvements? Maybe so. Would they be significant in the grand scheme of making a clav sound? Less likely. It's a pretty simple sound overall. It's ironic that my Nord Electro 2 that I've owned since 2002 puts out a more vibrant and musically inspiring Clavinet sound than anything I've used since then (same for Wurly). I don't know what special sauce was happening inside the NE2 to make this a thing, though the underlying samples haven't fundamentally changed since the early Electro models dating back over 20 years.

I can do most any Clavinet maneuver needed with the current samples, aided by the internal effects. It's like an electric guitar that is molded in the hands of the performer.

The only small nuance I would like to see is some kind of more prevalent key off pop that could be triggered with velocity. Could we also like a crusty, rusty, dusty, Clavinet sample taken from Lachey Doley's esteemed Castlebar modified Clavinet? Sure, that could be fun. In the grand scheme, if part of the narrative is that Clavinet is less used compared to acoustic and electric pianos, then that could explain why Nord has left us with a sample set that gets the job done and spent some time on other endeavors.
