I just ordered my new Apple Mac Mini 2020 (Mac Silicon)

So Nord, please make your software for Mac compatible with the new ARM architecture!
I am 100% sure Apple Silicon machines will be a big hit in the Nord community with their fantastic performance.

You don't need that, Rosetta 2 will make the current version work on it ;-)

You are probably right about that, but if they code for ARM, then we will also be able to run Nord Software on IPad - and that would be great.

There may be more to it than just coding for ARM. Apple has built in limitations in how iOS devices can communicate with other hardware. You couldn't even use a hard drive until iOS 13. So for non-MIDI applications (like upload/download data), I would not yet assume a Nord keyboard would work, i.e. that Nord Sound Manager would function on iPad even if coded for the ARM processor. But maybe...

No, just being ARM-compatible doesn’t mean Mac software will run on the iPad. Making the core of the software work on both iOS and macOS has been possible fairly easily for some time now. For some reason, Apple have decided that running iPad software directly on the Mac is a good idea, but running software conceptualised for a mouse-pointer-driven interface is destined for failure.

So they still need to develop an interface built for touch.

Yes, an app brought over to run on iOS should obviously be designed to work well via touch... but as of iOS 13, you can also put a mouse on your iPad.

Is the Apple Mac Mini just as powerful as a MacBook Pro?

I ask because I'm at a deciding point of whether to use an existing PC laptop I have (Ableton Live) or pursue Mac and using ProTools. The MacBook Pro is just so expensive!

The Apple Silicon Mac mini is the same hardware as the 13“ Apple Silicon MacBook Pro.

It is faster than any Intel laptop ever made, including all of the Intel-based MacBooks Pro (both 13“ and 16“) still available from Apple.

None of the M1 Macs are in any way upgradable, as all variable components are soldered directly to the main logic board. They must be configured at the factory.
